Become active and become a force to bring about correcting the course of the country before it's too late. I don't see pointing out injustices however big or small you perceive them as complaining. By posting these type of things on public forums like facebook etc is possibly the single most effective way to change things and by definition is an action. Complaining about something to your spouse or buddies accomplishes nothing. I am not complaining that the Obama's have bees in their yard. I'm not complaining that DC has an ordinance condemning bees. My point is that it seems by their actions that law makers are allowed to be law breakers. If that is the case (which it certainly seems it is) where is their motivation to change the stupid laws or enforce the good ones? Our lawmakers actually made a healthcare deform bill that every American citizen HAS to comply with ACCEPT the people who actually wrote and signed the bill. Thumbing their nose at a silly city ordinance about beekeeping is only symptomatic of the overall elitist, double standard attitude of our current administration. I am active, vocal and will be at the polls in November.

isn't it interesting the things you don't want to hear are "whining" and "crying" but the things you want to say are "speaking up" and "using your 1st amendment rights"?
simply amazing.

I read DCMR 904.1 and it didn't state that beekeeping is unlawful in DC. It did state that the hive couldn't be closer than 500 feet of a residence. So, unless you're including the White House, I believe they're in compliance. Not knowing exactly where the hives are located, they still might be in compliance (even if including the White House). According to the map, I saw no other residences nearby. Hmm, I heard somewhere that spreading false rumors was unlawful too....

I looked at a few pictures of the hives because of this thread. it's a bit hard to tell if the hives are too close or not. to me, it looks as if they could be though.

Too close to what? If there is an ordinance stating that a hive can't be closer than x feet to a residence, you're saying that includes the beekeeper's residence?

I'm not sure the White House would be zoned as a residence anyway. It's more of an office complex than a home. The presidential quarters are just a relatively small part of the compound.

do you know that for a fact? or are you just surmising as the rest of us are? but, I am currently looking at the washington DC OZ map (zoning map) and it lists the property the white house sits on as UNZONED, leaving it free and clear to do pretty much anything they want apparently. try to put up a link to the map here

I don't know how it's zoned, but I do know a bit about the layout of the complex, and the relative allocation of space.

Unless he is committing a felony or misusing his office he is exempt from prosecution until he leaves office. It's Executive Privilige. A US Senator would have the same exemptions while the Senate is in session.

well, like I said, I just showed you a map to see how it's zoned. and Mike is likely right as well, which is also something I and a couple others said earlier.

500 feet is only 166 yards. Here is a picture of the hives at the whitehouse http://www.flickr.com/photos/wiredwitch/3450105616/#15th street to 17th street which are the west and east border of the whitehouse area is 300 feet across.
