Where is all this "record heat" I keep hearing about? We have not come close to our record high temps around here. We haven't had them in awhile.

Heat index at my house the other day was 112.6°F. Took your breath away...

Here in Washingon we didn't hit 75 degrees until mid June, the previous record for the latest day in the year to reach 75 degrees was May 5th.  We are still running about 5-10 degrees below normal through July and into August.

We've had long stretches of 90+ deg. days this summer than in recent years, with  many days in the 95 100 deg. area. I dislike the heat and humidity.  :(

I remember it being over a hundred many a time and up around 110 and 111 in Mitchell, NE, although Scottsbluff (the official site of recording such things) was only about 108 or so,  back in the early 80s.  The chickens and the dog were panting all day long and the bees were bearding badly  and all of them were going through a lot of water.

Nothing now is all that close to that.

On a working vacation in So. Cal, and everyone from Redlands to Ojai says it's been the best summer ever. Highs in the upper '80s, but low humidity. Redlands is high desert, can't believe how nice the weather is for August. Can't wait to get back to Cincinnati...NOT.

Hot?   I put a box out for the bees to clean up that I have been saving for swarms.    I took them in this afternoon a little late.   You are looking at the wax melting.

Thanks Allen! You cleared up a mystery for me  :-D I was wondering why some of my frames looked "smooshed" like that.

My thermom read 107 today and I believe it. 630am I was getting frames ready and sweating like crazy. Thermometer read 84.
According to Cincy's news stations our "official" temp today was 96 but I'm an hour south of cincy so...yeah, i think its way hotter here   After this week, I'm looking forward to an alberta clipper..hehe.

Were those frames in the sun or in the shade?
