Bees dissappearing - what is happening???

I live in Dutchess County, NY. I am concerned because I am not seeing
ANY bees. Earlier in the summer there were a few honey bees coming to
my small (1 acre) property, but no bumblebees. Now there are no bees of
any kind.
Is this a local occurance? Is there anything I can do? Are there local
support groups if I should decide to try installing a hive?

Carol,
I live in Ulster county, but work in Dutchess. I have had bumblebees this year, but I know of others in the area that have complained about not seeing any either. I think all the bad weather we have had is the cause.
I have notice both honeybees and bumblebees working the dandelions outside my office window in Poughkeepsie.
I would be more than happy giving you a hand if you decide to give beekeeping a try. Feel free to email or PM me if you want to talk some more.
