So when he tells you that this stuff isn't rocket science, he knows what he's talking about! I usually pick some picture I've taken in the past, stylistic pics if possible so as not to be so distracting, and fit that so it fits across one or two monitors depending what I'm using at the moment. I change mine often, currently it is a pic I took of one of the sunsets we saw while we were in Mississippi.

I like the images, but have no idea what your desktops look like - I just redid this since our gathering, but I've used favorite photos in such ways. I used CTRL/PRINT SCREEN to copy image to clipboard, opened it in a image editing program, named it and uploaded it using our imageshack feature. Most of my rarely used icons go in the folder called desktop icons. Hope to see how create you are with yours.

you are very organized. my desktop looks like an icon dart board I just wanted to answer this on the way out the door for work. I can think back and can't every remember having a dartboard of a desktop. Even when I've had a generic colored screen ( non-image) I still corralled groups of icons together by type: browsers, audio, video, system, remote drives, paint, word processor, etc. I got jiggy quickly if I have to search for anything, and even my DESKTOP folder which holds other programs has subfolders accordinng to the samples above. Not saying I'm any good with computing, I'm surely average user, and I'm not anal either, but when it comes to finding things, others could find stuff on my PC almost as quickly as I do Have a great day!!!

I had to reinstall this wallpaper; I've been through 3 windows systems and this is my second linux system due to a dropped external HD in less than 12 months; if anything else happens I'll be communicating with clicks and whistles. I'm cheating a little bit here though, the question was motivation to put up my favorite desktop image again. As you can see I'm a little low on desktop icons; the spring-cleaning effect of going through piles of Operating Systems. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
