Beekeep On!

WWW
« on: April 24, 2010, 07:19:38 AM »

Hi folks, I normally wouldn't do this, but the community youth band that my son is in is so close to winning a $50K grant from Pepsi.   We have been trying for a couple months now and this time we stand a good chance.  The top 10 vote getters will win the grants.   We are currently in 8th place and there are only 7 days left to vote.   We have been as high as 5th,  but have dropped a few spots the last few days as other groups have stepped in up as we get towards the end.   The wind ensemble is a great opportunity for better and more dedicated musicians to get together with like minded peers.  They really seems to blossom when given the challenges not available in the normal school music programs.  In these times when schools are cutting back on their music programs due to budget issues,  the wind ensemble is more important than ever.

My son Blake, who is in 5th grade and turned 11 today, plays the alto saxophone.   He plays in his school's concert band, jazz band, and the Hudson Valley Wind Ensemble.

It only takes a few moments to vote and you won't get signed up for any spam in the process either.   So if you can spare a little time and vote once a day for the next few days, the kids would be truly grateful.

I voted for them and will follow up the next five days. Both my kids benefitted from music programs. My son became a member of the LSU Tiger Band and is now a new band teacher in Louisiana. Music can change a student's life in very positive ways. Good luck!

I voted as well and will continue to do so. With schools dropping arts programs all over the place, every bit of arts children can get is worth far more than a few seconds of my time.

Thanks to all of you.  We have been fluctuating between 5th and 10th over the last day,  so it is too close for comfort.  We appreciate if you could keep up the daily voting.....

Voted again today. The Pepsi site is exceedingly slow... must be a lot of people voting. Best of luck to your son's band.
