Security... Isn't it great
« on: April 19, 2010, 07:14:24 PM »
So this guy was wanting someone to take his Land Rover from Lubbock, TX to Santa Fe, NM. I told him I would charge a dollar per mile.... 315 miles. He needs it taken to the shop for repairs  :?  :?  :?

So when I get over there to load up the vehicle I ask what was wrong that it had to go to Santa Fe?

It is a security lock down thing..... won't start and can't even get the key out of the ignition. The closest place with the equipment to fix it is in.... guess where.

He said this wasn't the first time it happened. The other time someone told the cops there were guns in the vehicle while it sat on Texas Tech campus. The cops broke into it and put it in a hard lock down. That is when there is no way to unlock the doors at all so they had to break out a window.

Seems very costly for a security feature.

I have power locks in my Durango. They are great when they work but a pain in the butt when they mess up. And expensive to replace even if you do it your self.

When I've locked the keys in my van, I've always managed to open the locks with a large hairpin... through the rubber gasket on the back door to the regular button you pull up and down...

No this is more than just locking the keys in the vehicle.

The doors are open the key is in the ignition. But it won't start and you can't get the keys out. It a security feature that locks down the whole vehicle if someone tries to steal it. Then it has to be taken to the shop to reprogram or something like that.

You'd think they'd give the OWNER a device and way to input a completely unhackable code, like a WEP key, but maybe with a bunch more characters. It would be inconvenient but at least they wouldn't be completely dependent on the dealer.
be happy and make others happy.

I think my 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup is the latest vehicle I will ever own. I just can't trust anymore computer stuff put into the vehicles.

I watch these commercials of these Ford vehicles parallel parking themselves and wonder, "Who is responsible if there is an accident?"

I thought for sure someone would catch it and mention it.  :tumbleweed:

But here goes...

This is an example of how too much security in other areas of our lives is also a pain in the butt.  :jerry:
