Must be why this guy is an Admiral: "we don't anticipate that" - would not have been the response I'd have the presence of mind to issue, nor with any semblance of a straight face.

But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

unfortunately, what they are talking about is moving the marines from Okinawa to Guam.  don't think it will be good for us, or for japan in the long run, but that's what they think they want.  better for Guam and their/our economy.  no point in pumping money into a country that wants us gone.

Germany was kicking around the same thing until they ran the numbers.  quick change of mind  smiley.  we have turned over some things to them, or hired Germans to work in places like the hospital.  that makes them kind of happy.

I think the navy knows just how many people it would take to sink a ship or an island.  His whole district that he represents thinks the same way he does.  Remember Cynthia Mckinney?  Same seat.  Also, the reason he talks like that, he is suffering from Hepatitis C.

When I served in the Army during the Vietnam War I spent some time in northern Japan, we employed a good number of Japanese nationals on base as houseboys/girls, secretaries, at the Commisary, etc.  We did the same thing in Turkey as well as SE Asia.  In fact, the Military employs a good number of local nationals at every base located on foreign soil.  My son spent a 2 year tour in Okinawa and told me things hadn't changed, there were a lot of Japanese nationals working on the various US Military bases.

There is a large peace movement in Japan, so mabe Japan will be willing to forego all the American Dollars that US Military bases bring. in.  But I think it is more focused on the Marine Corps, don't we all remember the various incidents of marines being accused of raping young puyings (girls).  I seem to recall at least one incident for each decade of the 60s, 70s, 80s, & 90s.

sure and i'm sure it has happened.  i also know what hangs around bases and that it doesn't take long for folks to figure out that accusations open deep pockets.
