Hello and Welcome woodman-mo. How are those Russians working out for you ? How did you start with them, was it from packages of bees ?

These are my first bees. I started with a NUC. I am happy with the russian bees. They are doing good for me. They built up well, filling two deeps. I had a suppersesion of the original queen in Aug. The new queen looks good and is laying. They stored a fair amount of honey, but I still fed 2:1 for the last two weeks of Oct to about the middle of Nov. The deeps feel pretty heavy, so I am hopefull that they will winter well. I have ordered three packages of russians for this spring and one more NUC. I also have a swarm in someone's house that I hope to trap in the spring. I would say the only problem I have found is the few number of people that have russians. It is a little harder finding packages and queens.
