A swarm moved into my observation hive today. A neighbor spotted it first in a pear tree, then my wife(mabuzzbee) came home to find it on the side of the house entering into our observation hive which had dwindled.

Will it hold the all?

I like doing cut-outs, but I love catching swarms!

that is so cool.  i just showed it to my husband.  he said "maybe i should open up the tube on ours and see if a swarm  moves in?"   rolleyes  i didn't know he'd stuck a paper towel in the end to keep bugs and stuff out!

that's a lot of bees.  you may have to do a split!  maybe buy another observation hive?  evil

That's very cool!  I 've tried to lure a swarm into a top bar hive using nasonov.  Two landed very close and I captured them.  Maybe they were on their way in.

I'm assuming that the observation hive was empty?

That is really neat!

I've wondered if bees would do that but I've always assumed that a obs. hive has a smaller space than what they'd like.
