Greetings from Puerto Rico

Hello to everyone. Name's Johnny and I am new to the beekeeping world. I guess my background in biology got me interested and now I can't get enough of it. I haven't started my first colony yet because I am reading lots of books and trying to learn the art. Puerto Rico has a tropical climate and so far Ive read books that talk about seasonal changes but in PR its always warm and never drops below 65 I wonder how this affects the seasonal changes in the colony because there are flowers and nectar all year long or most of the year. Can anyone be so kind to direct me to information on this subject? Bee's rule!!!

I wish you lots of luck with your new hobby.  You came to the right place to get the help you will need as we have members from all over the world here with many different climates.

Someone will come forth who knows how to keep bees in a tropical place. Here in Northern California we have to prepare the bees for winter, so things start to wind down in the fall.  I always wondered what it would be like to keep bees in a tropical place.  Seems like it would be easier not having to worry about wintering bees.

Welcome to Beemaster Johnny, bees should do well in your area. It is always recommended to start with two hives. If one hive is experiencing problems, most times the problem can be resloved by utilizing resources from the other hive.

You've read up on them, now go ahead and get you a couple of hives!
