more on the NY meltdown
« on: July 13, 2009, 05:21:50 PM »

pretty evenhanded evaluation of what's going on.  be sure to read down to the firing of the workers.
.....The greatest changes occur in their country without their cooperation. They are not even aware of precisely what has taken place. They suspect it; they have heard of the event by chance. More than that, they are unconcerned with the fortunes of their village, the safety of their streets, the fate of their church and its vestry. They think that such things have nothing to do with them, that they belong to a powerful stranger called the government. They enjoy these goods as tenants, without a sense of ownership, and never give a thought to how they might be improved.....

Wow Kathy. I've been reading bits and pieces about major monetary problems in NY, but I had no idea things had degenerated to this. I'm starting to think an overwhelming mass insanity has started in NY and is about to spread across the country. This is truly disheartening to read.

I have personally been noticing a distinct ramping up in the level of incivility in DC, and it looks like this may be a terrible trend.
