Huckleberries
« on: June 27, 2009, 08:37:35 PM »
Here is a picture of some we have on our property. They are OK to eat right off the bush but not so great that I go out of my way to get them. Anyone got any good ideas for recipes

I believe you can make pie with them, similar to blueberry. - I'm not sure how blueberry-ish they really are - the really tiny blueberry looking things we had here I thought were huckleberries might be either gallberries or mayberries - I was using those sub for blueberries except they were so tiny I got sick of picking them and bush hogged the bushes.
be happy and make others happy.

I agree about the hassle of picking, as most huckleberry grow out of the tops of old growth cedar stumps you can usually expect them to be 6-8 ft up. And it takes forever to pick any decent qty of them.
