The use of tasers in my State has been put to rest by the new PC, for the time being. He is not convinced that they are in the best interests of his officers. He is a new age guy, the force doesnt like him 2 months into the new job, and didnt think much of him when he was DPC for crime.
All politics in the force nowdays it seems. But we have a former PComm on a string of charges, and the former head of the police union on same. This follows the disbanding of the armed robbers due to corruption, lying on oath by several members etc etc.
He states that cops already have enough kit on their belts, that relying on taser is frought with danger for his troops. He didnt wade into the debate on what effect hey have on the public. His opinion is that tasers are best left to the SOG and other specialist units that already use them.
Im glad we wont have them here. Doesnt really effect me, but due to the type of officers we get here nowdays, they relaxed the standards you see, no we have deaf, blind, dwarf, aggressive, sociopaths in the force, we dont need tasers.
I was watching two coppers the other day, talking to a young bloke, the constant idle slapping of the baton on his own leg by one cop was just bad training, it was aggressive and intimidatory policiing. I dont want a bloke like this using a taser. (they let him go BTW, just a random stop/hassle).
