new legislation in my home state( alaska)  now requires any truck trailer combination that exceeds 10,000 gvwr to pass the scales on the hiway,  and to comply with the requirements of a class A comercial drivers liscense,  it just so happens that the company i work for has a 3/4 ton pickup with a 20 ft trailer,  this combination with a full load of water( we wash cars) = 18000 that is to say nearly the weight of the truck over the limit, this new law should affect every camper trailer, nearly every boat trailer,  certainly every horse trailer in the state.  they have gone completely nuts and it is in an attempt to comply with federal law

How would this effect non residents who pull a fith wheel camper and boat into your state?

My RV weighs in at 23,000GVW - I have not stopped at anything close to a weigh station and will not unless I'm pulled over and made to.

I know at the www.rv.net forum this issue is always a concern.

I can understand the concern of the motor vehicle departments though - that's a lot of RV or any vehicle to boss around.

it will be interesting to see how they plan to enforce it,  i would think that if they really do attempt to make every vehicle over 10,000 gvrw pass the scales and cdl maintainence that will jam the courts with so many traffic tickets that they'll never dig themselves out from under the paperwork!
