One of my favorite authors and friend to musician Amanda Palmer keeps bees.

I had a birthday gift of amazon money one time, and spent almost every dime of it on Niel Gaiman books.
Definitely top among my favorite writers - he's a complete wierdo when it comes to writing.
(Steve Vai is also a beekeeper- 'fireflower honey' search you tube if you're interested)
