Hang on to any of the new Texas quarters you might find in your loose change. If you have them, they may be worth much more than 25 cents.

The US Mint announced today that it is recalling all of the Texas quarters that are part of its program featuring quarters from each state
"We are recalling all the new Texas quarters that were recently issued," US Mint Spokesperson Jack Shackleford said Monday.

"This action is being taken after numerous reports that new quarters will not work in parking meters, toll booths, vending machines, pay phones, or other coin-operated devices."

The quarters were issued in the order in which the various states became states and have been a tremendous success among coin collectors world wide.

"The problem lies in the unique design of the Texas quarter, which was created by a team of Texans ," Shackleford said.

"Apparently, the duct tape holding the two dimes and the nickel together keeps jamming the coin-operated devices.

Here is the proper way to do this. Get 2 dimes and 1 nickle. Make sure all surfaces are clean and shinny. On the nickle you place little globs of doublement gum on each side. You then center the dimes on each side of the nickle, making sure the "heads" and "tails" are facing the same dirrection. Place the whole thing in a vise and squeeze tightly, but not enough to disfigure the coins. Place in the hot sun for about three days. (Be sure to not let them sit out in the fog or rain.) Remove the coins and trim any squeezed out gum.  If this doesn't work, substitute elmers glue for the gum. But as there is a weight difference you must place a very thin coat on all sides of each coin. This has to be a very thin coating of glue or you risk getting it stuck in the vending machines.
