Video of bees marching into hive. (GOLDEN SWARM UPDATE)
« on: April 01, 2009, 01:16:54 PM »
Took this video of bees marching into a NUC during the swarm removal of the GOLDEN SWARM I captured yesterday. Sorry for the delay at getting this up.

Annette again. Wonderful video of them marching in. Just love watching that. So tell me Scott, I noticed that the cluster was still hanging onto the limb. How did you know that you got the queen into the box?  Did you just let them march in until the end or did you finally smoke them to hurry them along???

Responded to the first part of the question with my last post. I never smoked them at all. I typically never smoke swarm balls. They just march in when you put a large enough amount of the bees in the box whether you have the queen or not. I used a NUC that already had comb and prop in the box as well as a couple frames of drawn comb. I think this had something to do with their marching in as well.

Well see that is something new for me to hear. Didn't know they would go into the box at all without the queen until I read your post here and the other post as well.

Thanks for the info once again

Did they all go in, even the queen? Usually a bunch will go in and I have to physically place the queen in the set up.

JP:

In stead of waving those beautiful Brussel Sprouts in our face, how about adding a recipe in the cookbook for them?

I like to trim them up, then use a microwave steamer bag, lightly rince the sprouts to clean them and get them just wet to steam, toss in a tablespoon of butter and salt and pepper (I like garlic powder too) into the steamer back.

Let microwave on high 3 to 4 minutes and they are awesome, they flower out a little creating layer after layer of sprout to add to the texture and the butter/salt/pepper get infused as they steam in the bag.

These steamer bags really do a great job on a lot of veggies, but I've done a chicken breast (already cooked) but added a lot of cheese, olive oil, and other stuff and reheated it in the bag, nothing like microwave food of the past - and the supermarkets have tons of full meals in steam bags that really are quality food for just one or two people.

Now that would be a easy catch for me if I were doing swarms. Great video

Hey Bill. They only have one deep right now. I'm about ready to put some drawn comb on top of them. All the swarms I've been getting are sucking down the sugar water right now. Building new comb like crazy.
