I want to relocate a beehive about 500 yards from its present home.
I was advised to seal entrance during the night.
Then move the hive at least 5 miles from home and leave it there for at least a week.
Then move it back to the new location.
Is there a simpler way?

Yes, there is a simpler way. If you put your location in your profile, we can tell you the best way, or what each of us consider the best way, for your area.  huh   rolleyes
