Suicide?
« on: February 07, 2009, 05:08:07 PM »
So my A/C compressor isn't working. We haven't used it in awhile. Sure is hot for February. First thought is it could be out of freon. Then I thought about that big German shepherd dog might have pulled wires loose under the house. Then I thought it was a circuit breaker gone bad. So I opened up the panel to pull it out. Inside this panel is all kinds of wires and heat sensors and transformers and some other gadgets and a dead mouse hanging upside down in the wires.

I called my son in there to see this poor mouse that got in the wrong place at the wrong time and fried. And then, as my son was making comments about the poor mouse, and knowing I had flipped the other circuit breakers to cut the current to this one, I stuck the screwdriver in the screw holding the wires and  touched the metal box of the A/C unit with the other hand and...... well it is a good thing my hands are so dry. But as Kathy said in another topic....

how about an audio of when i found out the you really did need to tighten the connections with pliers??

Or rather in this case, double check the turning off of the juice  :rulez:

No the mouse didn't cause the problem. Still don't know what it is.

OH looky the "a" bug strikes again..... capitol A/C

OK, so you removed a dead mouse and it tickled you.

Now for the AC. If the freon is low, the ac will run as normal, just not cool the air. If the unit isn't running, it is electrical, not freon. First step is to search the complete unit for reset buttons. There may be a half dozen or more of them.

So the outside compressor will run if freon is low?

What I was going by is on cars the compressor won't kick in if low on freon.
