Wasn't that truly amazing Mike? It makes the human race look pathetic in comparison.

Very cool  but a little depressing - should be titled Giant Ant colony WAS a world wonder.

Quite amazing but a shame they had to kill the whole colony to get this info. Seems there must be some high tech low-impact stuff that would map this, too.

Thanks for sharing.

Jess,
If you look at the video again, it seems to be in the middle of a cow pasture and farm. I'm sure they did no more damage than what the farmer would of done anyway. I can only imagine what whould happen if a cow stepped into a soft area and it collapsed. Seems cattle types take steps to ensure their pasture land is somewhat safe.

I really give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. It was a massive ant mound in the wrong area, and I'm sure 100% of it would of been destroyed anyways. I know if that thing popped up in my front yard, as much as I love nature, it would of been gone long before it had three foot mounds..... Wink

Shouldn't they be reported? Cruelty to animals and all that.

Um, the thing about ants is that there are probably at least another 400 colonies just like that on within a half mile radius.  That is an amazing part too!

And watching the video I saw some tunnels that were going out away from the colony...those were the escape tunnels to the nearby colonies! Smiley

Yes, you should report them Jerry, since it is your idea to do so. And btw people, don't ever kill ants, even if they have built an ant pile in the middle of your living room. After all, ants have feelings too. rainbow sunflower

seems there should have been more to the video.  was there a part 2??
