In case you guys were wondering about my current avatar, you can click to enlarge. This is the swarm that stung me right after this photo was taken. Incidentally, I removed two hives from a lady's house down the street from where I caught this swarm and they were means as all he$$ as well.

They were as mean is hess?  How mean is that?  :?

Oh.....I see.... :-D

Amazing...get brave, show off a little to show the bystanders how nice and gentle bees are, and the next thing I'm running away screaming like a girl.  Leaves a good lasting impression.... :-D

I don't usually take those kind of chances just yet.....

Nice swarm.

Swarms will normally first land within 100 yards and within eyesight of the parent colony. People collecting swarms should keep that in mind. Many times you can track back or find the parent colony just by some good searching.

That swarm taught me a lesson, it was last season's. I now approach all swarms with veil on, after the shake, you will know their intentions. 99% of the time, swarms won't sting, but now I don't take the chance to find out. After the shake its usually all good and then you get to play with the bees!

JP, no wonder you got stung with that swarm.  I looked at your pictures and your face is so totally covered with that dark hair, smiling, they must have thought you a bear or something  :-P  ;) :) :) :).  Keep bringing on those pictures, love them, dear ol' friend!!!  Have a most wonderfully awesome day, life and attract that good ol' health.  Cindi

This Coming Holloween I want us all to have Halloween Avatars - we'll whoever wants to play at least.

I wouldn't mind changing JPS avatar twice a month - just to see who'd notice - lol. Admin buttons allow lots of control and fun. I don't change member avaratar excpt to friends not and then - some people keep them - lol.

Cindi, did you happen to see my post http://forum.beemaster.com/index.php/topic,19295.0.html

I don't find its the beard or any color that inspires bees to sting. It may help them to size up their opponents better however.

That swarm, I believe was from a house that had two colonies I removed a short period later, I could be wrong, no way to tell for sure really, unless you're csi, but those colonies were very mean as was the swarm, at least at first.

But some swarms will be testy if they've been there a while and have used up their honey reserves. I've sen some testy ones turn really docile right after feeding.

JP, my dear pal.  Yep, yep, I saw that thread and all the posts within.  I still think that dark hair (in particular) will attract the bees.  You cannot sway my mind.  Like Rob was saying, his black lab can get hit, even being 20 feet away.  I can attest to that with the different coloured dogs around my place, now JP, not that I am relating you to a dog, smiling.  But my black Kooder pal, (he is DalmationXRottweiller), always gets slammed when he is out near the apiary with me.  He doesn't come out there anymore, period, he has become smart in his years.  Did I tell you that the bees don't like my furry black watch band either.  If I get stung out there with the bees, inevitably it will be that wrist that has the watchband.  Ooops, we be off topic, my bad.  Have that great, most wonderful day, love our life, and live it to attract that great health.  Cindi

You just don't yet realize that your black hair on the face is that target and they will judge you, thank goodness you are so kind to them all, and work so hard to be gentle, they realize that and don't majorily attack that black facial hair, hee, hee, smiling.

Cindi, bees sting dogs, that's what they do. Dogs just barrel on in like a bull in a china shop. I believe Dane and Jody have posted pics of their cats sitting right on top or next to their hives and they haven't been bothered.

Moral of story, stop working your hives like a dog would, be more cat like my dear. :devilbanana:

That's funny my wife's black dog doesn't get stung at all. Unless she bite's them.
