Hello Everyone,
I live in Sugar Land, Texas (just outside of Houston), but the bees are out at "The Ranch" located about 45 minutes drive southwest. The first hive was started in Sept-08 from a swarm capture; they are over-wintering fine. I'll be starting a 2nd hive in the Spring. I've got everything ready and am just waiting to pick-up a package in March. I've been reading through various topics on the site and felt it was time to join in and say "Hello".

What kind of Hive and Bees, ya gonna try to round up? Swarms are a great start. That's how we got into it. We've got a mix of Lang and Long hives. Really are enjoying the Beeking. Starting our second year out with four hives and a nuc with Bees. Got four more Langs, a second Long, and four more nucs ready waiting for Bees.  SweetBee and HAB |

SweetBee and HAB I've got 2 Langstroth hives; 10-frame deep brood chamber over screened board with Pierco frames. Currently have 1 brood box with a polysytrene top feeder and outer cover. I'll be using medium supers for collection when the bees start making honey. I'm going to keep the "wild" hive alone and see if I can grow it this coming year. For comparison, I'm ordering a 3# package with a clipped/marked queen from B Weaver Apiary in Navasota (about a 40 min drive from my house) that I'll pick-up (hopefully) in March. I've got lots of room out at the property and it's tempting to buy more hives and bees - but I figure I better give it a full season to make sure I know what I'm getting myself into ... ! |

Welcome. Sounds like you have the same starter kit I got from betterbee when I started out in the spring.
