100 days and counting for Obama....
« on: January 20, 2009, 02:53:55 PM »
They say that the first 100 days is the most important for the president the first year. It sets the momentum for the coming year.

So what do you think will get accomplished? Here are a few off the top of my head that I heard promised. It seems many think these will get done. I don't hold my breathe.

1) NAFTA will be rewritten.

2) Millions of new high paying industrial jobs will be created in the rust belt area.

3) Our troops will be coming home soon.

4) National healthcare for all.

5) Our taxes will NOT go up.

I know OBama has picked a rather odd thing to go after first, that being changing the "Do not ask, do not tell policy" in the military.

I have always said that 99% of one's happiness, one's success, and anything else, was dictated by the individual. But it seems that many others are betting on much of their success and happiness on who sits in the white house.

So please tell me, what will change or what do you feel will happen in the first 100 days? And in case I'm all wet behind the ears, tell me which changes are going to change your life for the better, from looking at yesterday, to looking forward to tomorrow.

In the next 100 days, what do you think will get accomplished?

Don't forget the so-called fairness doctrine :rulez:.   I believe that is on his short list of to-dos as well.

And gun control, but that will probably take more than 100 days  :sheeple:

I doubt any of the things you highlite will be addressed in the first 100 days. Troops will not be home. NAFTa will not be addressed either. healthcare will be looked at but national healthcare is probably 20 yrs away if ever. You can gut spending proposals all you want and we will still have devaststing national debt. Taxes will be addressed. Some will pay more, some will not. Small business exceptions will continue in IRS code for years to come.
Expectations are proportional to the troubles we have. So yes, he will not live up to "expectations" Who could? He will be lucky to get a handle on the economy and adress the Iraq and now Isreal/hammas issues which are looking more dire as Saudi Arabia is now making noise. We could be back to the Yom Kippur wars and those  issues all over again as the arab world begins to show a unified front. He will be like a one armed paper hanger initially.
The one thing I am sure of, is there will be a feeling of hope instead of fear. I also expect more cooperation from the rest of the world. It wont help, but the verbiage will be prevalent

I'd say in 100 days his approval ratings will drop.

hope is a fragile thing.  if you base your future on hope rather than action, you won't have much of a future.  we don't really know what obama is going to do because he never really gave us concrete ideas.  he was elected because he's not bush, not republican, and he made the liberal segment of the population feel good.

i suspect that the far left and even some of the moderate left will be quite disappointed in obama.  they had an agenda, but he may not fall in line.  they feel that he owes them, but i doubt he feels that he does.

i think he'll let the bush tax cuts expire on their own.
he'll work on jobs creation, but that is going to be very expensive.  when this was done before, they didn't have OSHA, min wage laws, age restriction, training restrictions, etc. to deal with...at least not the the extent that they do now.
i hope he doesn't mess with "don't ask, don't tell".  it works as it is, and it would be foolish to piss off a large portion of the military to satisfy a small number of people with an agenda.
taxes will be raised on the "rich" and because much of this will have to go through congress, some of us will find out that we are rich and didn't know it.

he will leave the current withdrawl plan in place in iraq, but increase troops to afghanistan.  this is foolish both because of the nature of the conflict and the nature of NATO.  we will be there forever and many live will be wasted along with many dollars.  unlike iraq, there is no strategic advantage to staying in afghanistan and it will continue to drain our military.

if he can not control nancy and harry, and i don't think he can, he will end up with programs bigger and more expensive than even he foresaw.

enjoy that hope.  it's going to be a rocky and expensive ride!

More than that, they are unconcerned with the fortunes of their village, the safety of their streets, the fate of their church and its vestry. They think that such things have nothing to do with them, that they belong to a powerful stranger called “the government.” They enjoy these goods as tenants, without a sense of ownership, and never give a thought to how they might be improved.....

There is already talk of a million new government jobs. That's the way to reduce the national debt!! I predict a Republican Congress in two years. The democratic congress has produced nothing since it took over the majority and managed to blame everything on Bush. well, guess who's left to blame it on now.
Every one swooned Clinton for the balanced budgets, but it was the congress led by Newt Gingrich that wrote the spending bills to create the so called surpluses.
Until someone at the federal level has the guts to reduce spending(you can't spend your way to prosperity)you will never see an end to the deepening deficit.

you can't reduce spending when the majority of spending is on entitlements.  the more you promise, the higher the bill and the more people voting for more of it.

HOPE IS VERY FRAGILE. It can never be fulfilled almost by definition.

According to it's definition: Socialism is giving to everybody equally until everybody has nothing.  It's a downward spiral, those who have their handout for freebies always want more, those who are producing the products the government is giving away stop producing and get in line with their handout, wanting what everybody else has.  After a while nobodies working, just running around with their hand out, and upset to find that there's nothing to get anymore.

That is a safe bet.  He will also be 100 days older, but no promise that he will be wiser.  I'm not surprised by anything that has happened so far, but I don't like what he has done.  While I wish him success as a husband and father, I hope his plans fail based on what he has done so far.

A good way to start

President Barack Obama, meeting with Republican Congressman, arrogantly instructed them to stop listening to radio host Rush Limbaugh if they want to "get things done" with him.

Not only that, but when discussing the details of the bailout plan, and upon hearing a comment from one of the republican congressman, He basically said "I won!"  How arrogant and cocky for ANY president in an open meeting in congress to basically say "Shut up, I don't care what you have to say....I won!"

Bipartisan...yeah right!
