i was wondering how much our lives have really changed with the current economic problems. among my friends, the only one in trouble is a cement company. others have had issues with fuel costs cutting into bottom line, etc.
everyday we hear on the news that things are really, really, bad. what does that mean??

I work in the generic food industry, I print packages. With the economic downturn, we are hiring, expanding, and working a ton of overtime. So financially my outlook has improved. I am extremely safe occupationally unless there are alot of food borne outbreaks. The good news is the company I work for is extremely proactive when it comes to that sort of thing happening to us.

My brother and I do high end remodeling. We were accustom to a 12 month backlog. Our customers were people that wanted not needed. That market has about dried up. We now work on things that they need. Our backlog is about two weeks.
Kathy, I needed two choices, my income is down and my retirement is in danger.
We will survive, I am pretty diversified and resourceful.

My income is definitely down due to the economy, but now it's holding steady, we'll see how long that will last, though.

I also couldn't choose an answer. My pension and retirement investmenst are way down. But I wasnt planning on retiring for minimally 12 yrs, and I hope it will recover by then.My income is frozen, and my local taxes were increased yet again. I can say that my offices caseload has doubled from last year and thefts from employers are through the roof as well as intrafamilial thefts are sky high too. My clients are being pushed downward by people above them losing jobs, taking their jobs. My brothers place of employemnt layed off 45% and all workers were forced to take 15% paycuts.

I have 3 retirement funds. As long as the various Governments pretend to be solvent I'll get my pensions. But if the Fed and the State go bankrupt I'm broke.
