Pa. beekeeper here. Had 32 hives back in 1990. lost them all that winter to mites. getting back in now with Russian bees. second year with 6 hives. really like them seem to be a real tough bee. like to swarm though.

Have you lost some due to swarming or have you simply heard they like to swarm?

WetlandBee. Welcome to our forum. That was a terrible loss back in 1990, that was alot of colonies to lose, sorry to hear that. It has not diminished your desire to keep bees though, that is good, you are getting back into them, you are held under their spell, as we all are, they have that way about them.
