Okay there has been scatterings of talk about this year in a number of other threads, let's talk about it here. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other mainly because I just flat out haven't had the time to do the research. But, I did come across this article dealing with major solar storms and noticed the date. The next most active year is you guessed it 2012. The article talks about the last time the sun was really active the year was 1859, the storm caused telegraph lines to short that then caused widespread forest fires, among other issues. Since the technological breakthroughs we have had since then and how deeply dependent we now are  on the power grid could this possibly be the start of the disasters so many fear?

John and Jerry you two should love this post

why does the Vatican have two observatories??  smiley

all of the ancient mythologies point us toward the skys.  they either refer to the gods, planets, or stars.  even the bible tells of signs in the skys and tells us to watch for them.

just watched  a movie called The Star of Bethlehem.  interesting stuff.

also reading Sumerian mythology.

i don't know that any of this directs us toward 2012 specifically, but every bit of it points us to the stars, so i hope this isn't to off topic.  seems that if we were a little smart we should be able to know what is coming.  Issac Newton spent his life looking for the mathematic key.

Now if you accompany that story with this one about the weakening magnetic field, you have a catastrophe.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090112/sc_afp/denmarkresearchclimategeology_newsmlmmd

Then in 2012 when the Earth aligns between the Sun and the center of the galaxy and the galactic magnetic forces pulls more solar energy towards the Earth, things are going to fry.

Plus the gravitational forces are going to cause Yellowstone to erupt and you know what that will lead to.

I may be wrong, but doesn't this armageddon issue come from liturgical references from the old testament?

I've listened to 10 years of talk shows dealing with 2012. If I were to guess WHAT MAJOR EVENT was to happen to Earth and Mankind, weither good or bad.

If Good: I believe a prarmacutical drug will allow injected people with the ability to separate the concious body from the phyical body and thus EXPERIENCE what ETERNAL PEACE is all about and how to fly around the galaxy ONCE TRAINED a trillion times the speed of light!

OR IF BAD: I see a polar shift coming, possibly dealing with the emerging Earth quake and volcanic issues of our state parks. I think of 5 to 25% shift in earths access on 2012, just a nautural shift as if murcury is flowing from one end of a tube to another, QUICK and FURIOUS.

The Continents would shift as techtonic plates over came rather than fought each others power - whole land masses could move like balling in a pinball machine. The likeliness of human surviving depends on one thing, his ability to adapt to years of chaotic power interuptions. Maybe never power for a hundred years, by the few survivors, even those indirectly involved in massive landshifting, huge clouds of dust will fill the sky completely, fall like ash everywhere and totally block the sun causing a planetary WINTER where so much population would have the means to survive 3 or 4 moths, even longer with 20 foot of ask and debree everywhere on Earth. Even the oceans starved of air from meters think ash floating on top and killing all fish below.

THAT IS MY TWO PREDICTIONS: I surely would love the firwst to occur - image being able to control the spirit bodythat you were made by God and placed in a human vessel - imagine that concious being will have the ability to travel and experience a pain free world - I always dreamed where some medication can be created to separate the dying from suffering, and let them experience being fully removed from the body in a safe way. I believe the concious body always has control ovr going back to the phyical body in a blink of an eye. OF course there is the sleep paralasys that often scares most peopl, but to medicate the dying with drugs that let them soar like an Eagle and live painfree  - that day will be the miracle of 2012.

I think the Earth could survive massive fires volcanoes earthquakes loss of power or whatever even nuclear war. The only problem I forsee is if we were somehow cut off from the sun's radiation or heat, through to much ash in the atmosphere or some of the major dust clouds floating around in space (the next one in earth's path is in the year.................no not 2012 but 42,009 so I think we have time. If Earth was to get caught in one then everything would die oceans freeze plants die then on up the food chain. So if civilization was to end in 2012 bands of humans would go on I think. Would we still shop for our expresso's  from starbucks probably not but I think mankind would find a way.

Thoughts?

I hope mankind will survive 2012 in one piece. Cry
I really want to live long enough to collect all the retirement Uncle Sam owes me. Smiley

Joking aside, all the predictions are ominous!  But so were the ones for the New millennium.  Remember the Millennium Bug and how planes were going to "Fall From The Sky", computers were going to melt down, and all the money tracked by computers would disappear.

Nostradamous, the Aztecs, and many others all predicted an "End to it all" but will it happen.  I would guess not.  But I did check to make sure my computers were updated before the Millennium Bug hit.  So......

You miss the point, nearly $30 billion was spent on prevention PRIOR TO Y2K - everything needed fixing was fixed, at least as the stuff that mattered to a seemly post y2k.

I think if it were a polar shift, if bad enough all power sourses would fry at least a third legs as DC flip fopped. Much would FRY, car engines and more may sease to run again. Until batteries are made to by effective according to polar shift - we know now why it is 13.8 volts, to accomidate power influence. If it changes big, we are back to 1600 in seconds, those lucky enough to freeze to death or not suffent air to breathe.

We don't want any part of a polar shift, the weather will stay where it always flowed, only thing different we will be tilted much more either west or east - What is hot and when will all be new. It could be winter in florida in the middle of July, the food chain surely look different.

No doubt it would be a mess for a long long time. Who knows, unless you have a horse, you might be walking to work - man.

that is one.  all of the early civilizations from which we have records, point to an end of age.  depending which mythology you read, this would be the 4th or 5th rebirth of earth.  even the bible references 3, which would make this the 4th.  the Mayan calender ends with the year 2012....although some think we are off by a few years on that.

one of the reasons i have worked my way back to the Sumerian texts is that they are the oldest texts we have from the "cradle of civilization" and i wanted to see how they compare to the oldest writings we have from china, etc.  it's pretty interesting.  the stories are consistant even if the names and god(s) are different.  even the time frames for the stories seem to match pretty well.  don't know where it leads.  just something to do  smiley

I know this is supposed to be a serious discussion John but surely instead of jabs of some medication a shot or two of a potion from a bottle labeled PORT would go a long way towards some spiritual uplifting.
But as we know it does not keep very well, like once you pull the cork it very quickly disappears.

"I think many men have professed or were inspired by God, man is flawed so there are so many intrepitations of what God said in writing." (this said by Topak Chopra)

Many believe that God man made him in his "own image", doesn't mean God made us HIS PERFECT CLONE! I have IMAGES here of my wife, but it is NOT my wife, it is an image - not a clone. LAnguage is a skillful art.  We know many words added to the dictionary each year.

We are failures at perfection because we are only an image of the lord, nothing more - we cannot achieve greatness but can always attempt to. Humans are weak in the flesh, but strong in the soul: we are this planet's greatest creations - as far as fossil history can prove any ways. I'm a TRUE believer that God created EVOLUTION, man could not explain that concept in the words of Moses! maybe with todays dictionary we'd do better, but that ain't how it played out.

I think, seriously - that our Earth being a living creature to, but with an almost Godzilla nastines that will CLEANSE itself of humans at will -  I think it will (if ever needed) exterminate a species that could kill it - a self protective measure enacted so Earth itself wont die.

This is our TEST, to keep this world alive an evolve or continue to survive. Weither we want it or not, our own existance has turned us into GARDENERS of the planet. I guess 7 billion humans on your 8000 mile diameter planet which is 70% covered with water - humans in galactical terms may be parasites!

The Earth will do what it needs to do, whether "that thought"  is God's will I do not know, but Earth will survive easily at the cost of man. A tilt in the axis big enough (more than 4% is untold disaster, nothing like modern man and likely no human life has this planet experieced in a long time.

I'd bet this planet has seen a million ices ages before, it is relatively old after all. We just happen to be here now, because the weather in this cycle was possitive toward man's development. Our time could be up, who knows how far a civilization has made it here on Earth before "their time was up" Makes good Sci-Fi talk.

I think we have been given something, throught our ability to always adapt and strive as a creature on this planet, but time is such a poor way to measure success, 200,000 years of developed humans likely brought us here, but home and others came and went ten thousand times before the humans.

God may have spoke to man to create the writings of the Almighty, sadly there are so many intreptations, life would be so simple if everyone had similar religions beliefs in much of the world.

I guess that's why it's called FAITH, trying to explain it is impossible.

timv, i am not going to get into a pissing contest over interpertation.  my personal opinion is that if you do not read the bible in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, you are not getting an accurate interpertation anyway.  does that change the basic message?  probably not.  does it send people down the wrong track in the study of history?  probably.  does that matter to a Christian?  you have to answer that.

TimV is close to on the way out the door - I think we should all know that. Who does he believe he is to question ANYONE on their education, to lessen their worth because they live real world experiences and not trapped between the pages of a instructional manual.

I'll take the word of anyone with 20 years real world experience, over someone else with 6 years behind a school book - any day. TimV better behave his ways, I'm quite tired of him already. Just my opinion of course Smiley Oh wait... I carry the Football ( to many Airforce One like Movies) so TimV better bite his tongue, good point Kathy.
