Happy New Year to All!!!!
« on: January 01, 2009, 12:28:07 AM »
Going now to a friends house up the block from me,  to socialize and watch the ball drop at midnight in Times Square. Old Dick Clark, bless his soul.

Happy New Year to all you wonderful people here and hope all your dreams come true this year.

Love and best wishes
Annette

and a happy new year to you!!
.....The greatest changes occur in their country without their cooperation. They are not even aware of precisely what has taken place. They suspect it; they have heard of the event by chance. More than that, they are unconcerned with the fortunes of their village, the safety of their streets, the fate of their church and its vestry. They think that such things have nothing to do with them, that they belong to a powerful stranger called “the government.” They enjoy these goods as tenants, without a sense of ownership, and never give a thought to how they might be improved.....

Should of fired off a few... :-D

Around here, it a big thing to fire your guns off. But people must be saving thier bullets, as I heard only a few last night.

Hey Mike, hope you're kidding. Every year people get killed by bullets whizzing down from new yrs celebrators at least where there are lots of people. It may be ok in the remote country but its practically murder in the city.

My wife and I were dozing and I told her its getting close to midnight, you could just hear it from the increase in fireworks, she said I think its about 10 til, a minute or so later Kaboom, ding, pbooo, boom, boom, boom, it was 2009.

Happy 2009 everyone!

JP,
Does that really happen though... :? (people getting killed) Or it that some urban legend propaganda crap put out by police, etc.

I grew up in the country, but have probably been involved in firing off thousands of rounds over the years, and have never heard of anyone ever being hit.

And no, I'm not kidding. It is something you hear every year. I was actually shocked by the lack of gunfire this year.

And yes, some have previously mentioned possible danger. Maybe that's why some shoot off their shotguns instead.

And nothing compares to fireworks in Europe. I did not make it back this year, but last year, and 2000 in particular, it was a like a war zone. And it is the one time of the year that you can legally fire off ship's warning flares, so they are all over the place lighting up the sky. (They can get rid of old flares this way)

And fireworks are not limited. You can buy great stuff that actually are beyond the sparklers and crap here. And if you can imagine, you can pump gas at a gas station, buy a box of fireworks, and buy a bottle of alcohol, all in one stop.

The crap they allow in the states.....suck!

WOW, we are a lively bunch huh??  I fell asleep waiting for the fireworks on TV..Chels & her friends were sitting in a car, you know the ones that sound like rabid sewing machines?  No $$ for gas so they just parked outside the driveway & drove between kids houses here in the hole.  I could hear every time they started up & knew which houses they were at!  Chels came in every 1/2 hr or so to warm up..would they come in where it was warm?  Nope, by golly it was new years eve & what teen wants to hang out with an old fart?  They probably had a beer or something (NOT from me) out there although I didn't smell anything.  I don't like the idea but they were in front of the house most of the time & I know I did way worse than that well before her age. 12:15 the girls were back in the house & in bed so not too worried about what they were doing. I can smell pot from a mile away & none of that. Today I can ask how much fun it actually was & wouldn't it have been more fun in here with snax & the woodstove??   Happy New Year to all!  Hmmm, think I'll make prime rib tonight. :-D  J
