Just a reminder to those folks in Washington State about the first Pierce County Beekeepers Association (PCBA) meeting for the new year on January 5th @ 7:30pm. Apprentice and Journeyman Beekeeper classes also begin at 6:30pm. Both meeting and classes are held at the Washington State University Extension center in Puyallup in the Allmendinger Building.
It's my new year's resolution to actually attend more than 1 meeting a year, lol, so I'll be there!!!
Jody, you comin? I'm gunna do the classes too so if you wanna hitch a ride with me you should sign up for the classes too. lol

Here's some info emailed to me from the instructor of the class that's coming this monday:
_____________________________________________________
The classes begin at 6:30pm Jan-Jun, but I would get there a little earlier
in January to fill out the Application for the class and membership forms.
There are 6 classes of 1 hour each and 10 very simple open-book tests
(which I will allow people to take home and bring back next class).
After completion of the apprentice class and tests, you will be given a
certificate from the WSBA. Then you will be able to start the Journeyman
class next year. We will have optional patches to be ironed on clothing
for those who wish to get them.
Hopefully at least one class will be given out at our apiary on the WSU
grounds.
If you have any further questions about the class itself, email me or come
early and I'll answer them.

PCBA instructor
WSBA, Master Beekeepers Certification Committee Secretary

The president of the club let me know that:
For Members it is $10.00 for the Apprentice Booklet.
For Non-members it is $ 28.00, which is booklet & membership.
Sounds like a blast to me! Can't wait! Hope everyone local here can come!
Jody, 5:45 should be perfect! I wonder if we win the auction for the packaged bees, if we have to pick them up ourselves? Glory Bees are down in Eugene, Or!!! lol Probably be cheaper to just stick with Trees n' Bees. lol
Oh yeah, for those interested (I'm getting one) the club hats are $12, cash or check.

If you missed it, the meeting was a lot of fun tonight! Jody (aka Poka-bee) and I started our beekeeping classes for the Master Beekeeper - apprentice level. It was mostly stuff we already know but was still fun and interesting. After the class they held elections for 2009 which we didn't participate in since we were still pretty new to the club and don't know anyone yet. Then they held their annual auction which was a blast. Some really great stuff got auctioned for incredible prices. I wish I brought more cash!!! Some guy won a 4 frame radial extractor for $90!!!! I almost lost the auction on a swarm trap but Jody came to the rescue with $2 which gave me the win at $10! Can't wait to hang it up this spring!!! And of course there was cake and coffee! If you missed it, hope you can make the next one in February! I'll keep everyone posted on the next meeting.
