95% of research is a waste. Many of these type experiments and researched conducted tests are nothing more than grant monies being wasted. If you have a oddball idea, and can write your name on a piece of paper, and are connected to a university or an agriculture department, than grant money is what continues your job and existence. This type thing just keeps people employed by living off tax money. Sure, there will be someone to say something good will come out of this. But many times, the amount of money to perform year long tests on such items, runs in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. But I guess it's better than paying for art in the area of someone putting a flag in a bucket of urine and feces and then calling it "art", while the taxpayers are footing the bill.

Bad bees Bad bees what you going to do when they come for you I can see a new TV series. Bees robing bank's of honey and running from the bee police. I think the study is a waste of money.

Irwin I never thought of it that way Pretty soon we will have drive or fly by shootings, crack hives, armed honey robbing, Russian and Italian crime families moving in to run the whole thing, the possibilities are endless

All in the name of science of course!
Well, it's really mostly in the name of grant money. A university professor's career progresses to the extent that he or she can secure grant money for projects. A lot of science is the by-product of career building and quest for lab equipment/expansion, not necessarily the pure desire for knowledge. Been there.

The researches gave some to the bees and did the rest, who knows for sure.
I have a good friend whose brother died the very first time he used cocaine, on his 18th birthday.

Now... what did the honey taste like?
Highline Honey, honey with a kick, collected by bees pollinating cocaine plants. Or howabout Opium Honey, direct from Opium poppy fields.
