Never fails
« on: November 22, 2008, 12:03:44 PM »
My wife picked today for me to smoke our turkeys and baked beans for Thanksgiving. The ribs and chicken for our vacation (she freezes and then thaws/reheats in our MH). Of course it is now blowing a gale with this front coming in and I am going through wood like crazy trying to keep the heat up. I even moved the MH around trying to block the wind from the smoker. It just never fails to blow when I use the smoker. A breeze is good, 20MPH is bad.
Thanks for letting me fuss. Rick

That's a calm day around here  ;)

Irwin, here ya go, just not todays cooking. If I remember right (my forgetter works better than my rememberer nowadays) this was a pork butt, chicken, ribs and venison sausage a while back. I had already taken most of todays cooking off before I read your post.

Jerrymac, it's a sure thing the wind is gonna blow if I cook or go fishing. I don't even mess with bees on days like today.

Thats a mighty fine smoker there Rick!!!
I need another one pretty soon as the firebox is rusting thru on mine.....
I also have one from cabelas thats electric, with a timer and thermostat too! I just put some chips and a pan of water and walk away!...This is easier as i cant stay outside all day long drinkin' and smokin' and tending to the logs like i used to! :-D
It sure was fun though while it lasted!!

your friend,
john

Thank you Johnny. It's homemade. It has 4 racks. One is inside the door in the picture and an upper one that is not on it in the picture. I use the lower one to hold my water pan.
I told my wife she wasn't taking the baked beans anywhere, man they are good. Hickory smoked for 2 1/2 hours.

Thank's Rick that looks good. I'm having a problem with imageshack the pic's don't load up so the last pic you posted worked great. What kind of wood do you use? When I smoke up food I use alder mainly but when I can get it I like to use apple and cherry it has a nice flavor.I read your post again and seen you use hickory.

And for you John you crack me up :-D I can tell that you got a bit of the wild side left in you. My wife tell's me all the time to grow up but I tell her if I did I would be dead life is to short so have fun while you can :-D

Rick, oh you got some great lookin' food on that smoker, at an early morning hour here, you are making my mouth water....oh yum, yum, I love food!!!

John, you get your big arse away from that smoker, you don't want that kind of smoke around the food!!!  You bad boy!!! Like Irwin said, you still got that kid within you, that one that surfaces so often, so frequently, that is wonderful and oh, it brings that great smile to my face, you are somethin' special, don't ever lose that part of you.....I think we all can't wait to read your posts, our serotonin levels skyrocket with joy and laughter!!!  So nice to see people that are down-to-earth, and have no bones about saying crazeeee stuff.  Have a great and most wonderful day, great health.  Cindi
