Ok. A big clue. This one will help you along with WHY he was in the city. He went to see an eye doctor......

Ok....
He has a job (or something else that is important to him) that relies on his eyesight?
He committed suicide because he couldn't live without his eyesight?

Yes and Yes But why now? He was not blind and could see perfectly, and just found out an hour prior about his condition. He has so much to do before he lost his sight. You getting close....

He was an anti-gun activist, and his goal in life was to have concealed weapons banned on trains.

Hmm why did he go to the eye doctor in the first place, he was a competative marksman by profession?

The reason is not important...maybe just a routine eye exam. No, on the profession...which does not play into it.

Batboy was tired of the Sun using the same pic from 30 years ago, grabbed his hand & made him shoot himself? Was he one of those dummys that don't make sure the gun is totally empty before looking down the barrel? J

You are so close.... If you can add in the significance of the train, then you will have it.
