I need a new queen in one of my hives. It will probably make it over the winter, but I want to get a jump start on spring. Your thoughts?
Also, where should I order the queen from?

I like fall re queening and have done so as late as mid November. As far as queens go the only place I know of this time of year will be from Hawaii or south Texas. I get mine from Kona.

Even up North they recommend fall requeening.If you can find a queen,go for it.

What is the purpose of requeening in the fall? Does this help the hive? Is it to replace current queens? Just curious.... we only have a few hives of our own. One has a lot of bees, but doesn't seem to have as much honey as the other two smaller hives. Mark hasn't really wanted to disturb that particular hive too much as its his first colony, and it was feral when he acquired it from a historic home. We know it was an older colony as the people said it had been in the roof for years.

If you have a problem queen ---- or one you just want to replace. Fall is a good time, Usually quicker build up in spring because of new queen and no lost time because she is ready to go!

Yes I and my mentor have put in lots of Rossman Queens. No problem --- and Fred is easy to work with in my experiences.

I'm in Rome, GA. try the market bulletin. Arthur Hudgins in Cedartown sells queens. If you want his number PM me, I don't know if I should post it here, but he is in the Ga. Farmers Bulletin as are several others. Arthur has Italian/Minnesota Hygienics. I drove down and got one in July and she is doing nicely, even dropped her out of the OB hive and she's still laying. $18 each.

Oh boy if I lived in GA, I'd be requeening! You know, I have to pick up a new hobby to keep me occupied during the winter. Like maybe AI....
We have ordered from Italian queens from Rossmans several times and have been happy. We have had great luck with the queens being excepted most of the time. Some of the queens were small, and the brood pattern was a touch spotty. However, the bees were gentle and they produced very well.
