avg anti-virus free
BY FAR the best free anti-virus is AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition version 8.0.173 (as of Sept. 28, 2008) And for ad blocking its the free Lavasoft Ad-Aware 2008 version 7.1.0.11 (Watch out for similarly spelled trash) Get Em, Run Em, You'll be glad you did.

Yes watch out you don't download a program that is close to what you think but is corrupt, have a friend or perhaps one of the mods here that knows, help you locate a valid, authentic program. Beware of imitators! ...JP

I like CA EZ trust. It updates daily so you do not have one big upload when you check. I have not yet had a virus make it through.

Pfft. Norton antivirus (symantec) has been slowing computers down since the early 90s. It's a wonder they are still in business. AVG is great.
Edited to clarify- my post started with "symantec!" and may have been misconstrued as an endorsement. Let me be perfectly clear, symantic=bad

If anybod is interested in Zone Alarm PRO here is a link that will be good only on 11/18/08 so use it on that day or you won't get it free. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2334774,00.aspGot this site from a very reputable forum I'm in so know it is good. Never had any trouble from Zone Alarm free so am going to download it in the morning and try it.

I use AVG free, never had a virus. But I do have a couple spyware programs that it finds every time I run a scan, that it can't remove. Other than that I would recommend it. Can't complain to much, after all it is free.
