NWIN, I am sorry for your loss.
The father and son in ditch were the two legitimate deaths from that state that they were blaming on the storm... the other 5 deaths they didn't give enough details to make a determination on what caused their deaths. For all we know, they died of cancer... or committed suicide. My point is that you can't blame some of those deaths on hurricane Ike. There has to be some personal accountability for grabbing the hot leads on a running generator.

It isn't always the case... but sometimes, just sometimes, what happens to us, is our own fault.
Regardless, tens of thousands of people die each year from auto accidents... yet Ike has gotten more news time than all the accidents around the country put together, and it's somehow a bigger disaster than all those car wrecks... in fact, they are just no big deal to the news. If those tens of thousands of deaths are no big deal, why are roughly 40 deaths so horrible?
Either way though, I'm a christian, and I don't think death is nearly as big a deal as we make it out to be. There is an afterlife, so dieing is not much different than walking out of the living room... though a one-way door... and into the kitchen. Those of us still in the living room may not be able to see the people in the kitchen anymore, but they certainly didn't cease to exist just because they are there and not here; and just because we can't see them anymore, doesn't mean that anything terrible has happened to them.
You're right though, I am incredible.
PS - I doubt you would take death too seriously either, had you learned it was me, and not your personal aquaintances that had died.
