We have now had more rain today than ever in recorded history for this area. Lubbock had been preparing for hurricane evacuees (Gustov, Ike) but now might have to use those facilities for Lubbockites.

6.60 inches in less than 24 hours and more coming.

Lubbock was suppose to start construction on a new drainage system.... next week. Might be delayed  by rain  shocked

Hey Jerry, how far is Lubbock from the coast? We're supposed to get a bunch of rain tomorrow here.

Hey jp, how you managing with ike?

Ok Sean, rain and windy conditions, tropical storm weather, winds forecast to be constant 30mph throughout the day.

You getting things in order since Gustave?

Sorry Jerry, don't mean to highjack your post, thanks.

Not sure how this will work but....

Took my wife to work this morning and the little lake by the hospital was up into a lot of the parking lot.

If this comes up for you the hospital is the building right under the words "Covenant Med Ctr Lakeside" looks like two "Y" stuck together. She works on the fifth floor of the south end.... the upside down "Y". To the east of that part of the building, that whole parking lot is under water. So I imagine a lot of those houses are flooded also. The hospital is up on a hill so it is OK.

Jerry,
Is this a water retention lake to capture runoff?
What are things going to be like for you from Ike?

It is one of the many playa lakes we have around Lubbock. They fill up when it rains and floods homes, that is what the new drainage system is suppose to take care of. Lubbock is on basically flat ground with a few of these depressions all over the place. Who knows, could be old buffalo wallows. You know they liked to wallow around in the mud and a few million of them over the centuries would carry off a lot of dirt.

From the hurricane tracker it appears Ike will not make it up here but go to the other side of Dallas. We might get some rain from it if it is as big as they say it is.
