Yeah, I hear about Gustav.  Heard it might hit New Orleans with the same force as Katrina did.  How's the Levee's?   Hope you have a bathing suit or a boat tethered in the yard.

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts and offers!!!

My wife had surgery today, she could have rescheduled but we decided (mostly her) to go forward with it, she's doing surprisingly well.

If the hurricane comes we will evacuate to our property with our three dogs.

Thanks again everyone for the kind words.

Thanks again for the kind words and proposals and I hope to meet several of our forum members in the near future, still on to go to Bud's on the 11th as long as the weather cooperates.

Yes, Annette, Big Daddy, we are having a small get together including Dallas, Allen Buckley (who will be showing us some queen rearing tricks). I'm not gonna eat chitlins though, unless Bud twists both my arms, feet, ankles, nose, etc...

This morning things look more probable we will get something from Gustav, tonite/tomorrow morning will be decision time, besides I hate to drive in heavy traffic, with three dogs, nonetheless!!!

Probably gonna get the mandatory evacuation order if not tomorrow night, early Sunday.

We will most likely be on the road Sunday morning unless something decisive occurs but uncertainty is on the menu, just hope we have a house to come back to.

I would love to do that Dallas but my wife had surgery Thursday and I need to be with her and the three dogs.

It is not looking good for us, we will be on the east side of the storm if it hits where predicted, and this is the worst possible scenario as for as rainfall, flooding and tidal surge go.

I may post one more time before we split, as we are preparing to go within the next few hrs or so.

We will be out of harm's way at our property.

Thanks again for the support!

Thanks Jody, yes, it is very stressful, but we are very relieved we have a place to go to, we can thank Katrina for this.

My wife is doing ok, she is healing up nicely, thanks for thinking of her.

It's 11:35am here right now, we will try to leave by 1-1:30pm CST.

I will post right before we leave.

Thanks everyone for thinking of us, if you don't mind, prayers, positive energy, whatever you can muster up will be of big help.

Want to say, Brian hope all of you have a wonderful time at the big shindig!!!

Cindi, don't let them eat all of the duck, ok? (secretly evacuating to Cindi's to get some of those muscovys  grin)

Thanks again for all the support, hope to see all of you real soon!!!

I played tour guide today, having fun.  Maybe Cindi will post some of her pics.

I don't know if I'd prefer Florida over New Orleans, one place you have to go uphill to find the river and in the other you have to wade through acres of swamp to find a piece of dry land.  Both are too close to really wet weather for my liking.

That's what we tell everybody, but they come anyway, find out what it's really like around here, and move in.  Washington State is one of the Fastest growing states, population wise, in the USA.

BTW, There really are places in Washington where they've recorded rainfall for 366 days in a year's time.   Nearly 100 inches all together.  We get rain, often, just not all at once.  30 inches of rain per year in small doses of .1-3 inches is nothing.  Now I've been places where it's rained 40 inches in a week (Tropics)....rained everyday, 12 hours apart, for a hour each time...6 inches of rain in an hour is a gully washer.

Brian, there's a place very close to my parents' house (on the Olympic pennensula of Washington) that get's over 200" of rainfall per year.  Yet my parents' house gets only about 15" per year... what a difference!

Well, the wife and our three dogs are back home and safe, wanna say thanks for all of your support.

We dodged a few tornados in Ms where we evacuated to and our home in Metairie as far as I can tell is ok, we just got in about 45 minutes ago, so I'll be checking things out in daylite tomorrow.

Wanna say thanks to Brendhan, Dallas, Bud, Scott Derrick and CD for checking on me, it was really nice to hear familiar voices and one I hadn't talked to by phone which was a delightful surprise, courtesy of Brendhan, and that was our very own Cindi, yep!!

Can't wait to see the posts and pics of the big shindig at Brian's, Brendhan said a good time was had by all and when he called he said he and his wife were heading to Vancouver to visit Cindi and her old man, who Brendhan said BTW was a trip and a half, anyway...

Brendhan said he would call me when he got to Cindi's and he kept his promise, Cindi, let me say it was great to hear your voice.

Well forum friends, just wanted to post in, its been a long 6 days for the wife and I and our three dogs in our little cabin in the middle of the woods in Ms, using a generator for power and dodging tornados!!!

I wanna know about the secret cabin!
Does it have a fallout shelter?
Do you have a year supply of food and water?
 Got any pictures?

Anyways, good to see you made it back and your house is ok!
Prayers are a good thing, huh?

Thanks, Annette, Mtmn, Johnnny.

Johnny, the wife and I purchased our land after Katrina, we're dog people and was tired of trying to find a place to go to that would take in dogs, plus, Katrina was a real wake up call, with the real possibility of the entire area going under water, we decided to find a place to go to evacuate or to live and start over if the inevitable were to happen.

I have hunted Ms for many yrs now and really love the woods there and the wildlife and its not that far from our home in Metairie.

We have some supplies there but no bomb shelter built, yet!!!  grin

Thing is our little cabin was built by some good folks, but its a homemade job at best, albeit it has stood its ground through several hurricanes including Katrina.

When I first saw it I honestly thought we should just tear it down, but the wife insisted, over her dead body!!!

So, I've been doing repairs to the roof, added running water and a shower, paneled the interior walls of the bedroom (addition which is basically a sheetmetal shed) beefed up the electrical, which BTW, is having a problem which we discovered 45 minutes before we headed back from Gustav.

Tomorrow morning I am meeting with the electrician to figure out the problem so we can evacuate again, if we need to from %#@$%& Ike!!!

Anyway, wish us luck, and prayers, again!!!

Brian, there's a place very close to my parents' house (on the Olympic pennensula of Washington) that get's over 200" of rainfall per year.  Yet my parents' house gets only about 15" per year... what a difference!

200" of rainfall is on the western side of the Olympics (aka Rain Forest) and was one of the places I was talking about.  You Parents must live between Port Angeles and Port Townsend....Sequim?   The difference of a few miles and front on to or lee of the Olympics makes a big difference.
