.....The greatest changes occur in their country without their cooperation. They are not even aware of precisely what has taken place. They suspect it; they have heard of the event by chance. More than that, they are unconcerned with the fortunes of their village, the safety of their streets, the fate of their church and its vestry. They think that such things have nothing to do with them, that they belong to a powerful stranger called “the government.” They enjoy these goods as tenants, without a sense of ownership, and never give a thought to how they might be improved.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, that has been known to happen.

It seems a long time ago, you know, when dirt was young, we were told in West Texas heat that you were to drink Cool water not Ice water, of course we were told to use Salt Tablets also, I believe that has been changed too !

Yes, cool water rather than cold,"ice" water.
As for salt tab's, I would not recomend for just anyone.
As always check with your doctor.
I used buffered salt tab's once under controlled conditions.
Although if a person doesn't exert under extreme conditions, then I would think salt tabs of any kind are not necessary.
Daily intake from food with a little table salt for seasoning should do the trick.

Of course, you can, as always, get a second opinion.

Concur with the addition that Handy's Quinine tablets will lessen the effect of the cramps that come with the heat exhaustion and salt makes you body retain water.   Back during the Vietnam War the U.S. Army made us take at least 1 Quinine/salt tablet every day in the tropics.  I've also found that quinine also helps control RLS and some affects of Fibromyalgia but the salt is murder with the Menier's disease.
