steve m. i think you have made a wise choice!  my  husband and i were just talking about the days when there were 3 channels and all we got to watch were the news and gunsmoke.  what did we do with all that extra time!!  :-)
.....The greatest changes occur in their country without their cooperation. They are not even aware of precisely what has taken place. They suspect it; they have heard of the event by chance. More than that, they are unconcerned with the fortunes of their village, the safety of their streets, the fate of their church and its vestry. They think that such things have nothing to do with them, that they belong to a powerful stranger called “the government.” They enjoy these goods as tenants, without a sense of ownership, and never give a thought to how they might be improved.....

I cannot possibly imagine them being able to find either a polar or diametric opposite to me.  Well, at least not one who would survive 10 days with my 4 kids, who are very much like me.  *chuckle*

I've watched that show a couple of times and thought that a person would have to be insane to participate in it... and I'm just not that insane, so count me out.

I always wondered if alot of those type of reality shows were at least prompted or partially scripted.  I only see them in passing anymore.  Eh.  I'm always wrong about that kind of stuff.  I watched the first three weeks of the first survivor and that was enough.  I figured I have more than enough reality in my life and don't need to drag it into other folks' lives.  Besides I'm not quick witted enough for that stuff and my kids are taught to respect their elders (at least they do pretty good with other folks :?).  If they were polar opposites she would be a drooling casualty here just putting up with me and I would pity the other household.

I'm just trying to figure out why my wife likes to occassionally watch Bridzilla. :-P
Everyone said it couldn't be done. But he with a chuckle replied, "I won't be one to say it is so, until I give it a try."  So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin.  If he had a worry he hid it and he started to sing as he tackled that thing that couldn't be done, and he did it.  (unknown)

I was seriously disappointed with survivor when I found out that it wasn't just leave 'em alone and see who stays longest... now THAT would be worth watching.

The only reality TV show I would be interrested in doing is the amazing race.  That looks like so much fun!  Forget the prizes, I'd do it just for the trip.  That's also about the only one that we make a point to watch.  Well, unless you count american idol and america's got talent, which sucks this year since they only show one act between commercial breaks and show less than 10 acts per hour long show... It's enough to wear out my fast fwd button on the DVR.  They fill the show now with so much crap, like the back story, the judges comments, etc... I don't care about that crap, just get to the next act!

We are a TV-free household, but I happened to see a glimpse of this show once while visiting my parents.  I couldn't believe how ridiculous it was....reaffirms why we have chosen to remove the television from our home.

Less TV means more time for more important things like spending time with the kids tending the hive!

Smart.

I was TV free for about two years.  Not by choice but because I was broke.  I didn't even have much furniture in my house.  I didn't miss it.  I spent most of my time at the beach or exploring the no-man lands of Puerto Rico.

Same here Steve, We have not had any TV in our house for over 17 years. Whenever I catch a glance of some shows while visiting my brother, I am so happy I stopped that nonsense.

We never went completely without TV but we have occasionally disconnected the satelite service as the stuff on tv is mainly GARBAGE :-P
The only time I remember Households without TVs is went I visited a few households in a Charismatic Christian community...It was really nice and quiet without tv. The people werent forced to not have a tv, it was an option. TV is such a distraction to whats important most the time...Unfortunately, I spend alot of time in front of it since I can watch MLB(baseball) in the evenings after work.
TV and this computer, and most of my computer time is spent here in the forums :) As a matter of fact alot of by beekeeping consists of being here in the forums. I never even spent this much time on a computer when i met my wife on the net!
I honor and respect you guys who dont do TV!!..Yalls willpower is alot stronger than mine! Your priorities are set alot higher than mine to :)

Way To GO!!

your friend,
john

Yes sir. We can work ourselves to death or be entertained to death, but one thing is for sure, we aren't getting out of here alive.

We originally went without TV after I took a chef's position at an in on an Island....certainly not as exotic a place as Puerto Rico, but no TV none the less.  We kind of got used to it not being on.  We brought it back inside for a bit right after 9/11, but before the children came, we got rid of it for good...by giving it away.

There's no will power involved when there's no TV to turn on.  The hive has become a type of TV for me now though....I can sit in front of it for long periods of time just staring at the bees go in and out!

No TV probably leads to a happier, healthier, more fulfilling life... but in my case, getting rid of TV would be my death, at the hands of my wife, who's been watching enough forensic files to know how to get away with it...
