The old Heddon Hive had reversible frames.  In other words you could flip the comb in the frame upside down.  This was done from time to time for the same purpose as switching brood boxes, to force the bees to rearrange the brood nest and to head off swarming.  You could also tighten two thumb screws and flip the whole box upside down.

Looks interesting, but really pricey. I'm sure shipping to the US would be brutal.
