Spent the better half of today at the emergency vet hospital with my 13 year old best friend Pomeranian "Buddy" today. He is still there ( on ICU ) and will no doubt stay until Monday ( if he improves )...
Seems as though he might have cholangio-hepatitis.
Anyone here have any experience with this??
He is on IV hydration, 2 antibiotics, pepcid, 2 types of liver protector, reglan, had an abdominal ultrasound and lab work...
Say a prayer and send a little light to Buddy won't you?
Thank you ~*~*~

Hi Sharon, I have two little black Pomeranians - one is 13 and very ill also. I am so sad for you - they become such sweet good friends, these dogs of ours. I'm hoping things get better for Buddy -
Good luck to both of you,
Linda T, thinking of you in Atlanta

Gee Sharon, I dont know anything about cholangio, but I do know about the love for a dog.....I feel sad for you and I hope buddy gets better...13 years is a long time but little dogs can last longer than that. God willing, he'll be up and about pretty soon. We will all be waiting for news. your friend, john

Well, we went to visit him, he sure wanted to come back home with us. His labs are better, and not worse, and he is eating and no vomiting since last early eve. That is good news.
More updates tomorrow, I told him y'all were sending him love...boy that brought tears to my eyes, and he just looked at me like, lady, just give me more of that cooked chicken!
I loves that dog!

Hope Buddy continues to improve. I have spent my share of time at the vet with my four legged house mates. The hardest part is having to leave them there so they can get better. I think it bothers us more than them!

Thanks fellow bee folk...Little Buddy is back home, he is improving slowly. The vet feels he will come through this. He goes in for me blood testes tomorrow and I am hoping that his liver enzymes are lower.
He is on 2 antibiotics and will be on them for some time.
I cook his food, he is happy about that!

Sharon, oh happy day, Buddy is home and improving. I just saw this thread just now, I have been so swamped I haven't been on our forum much. What turmoil when a dog is not well, they are indeed our best friends, not a bit of an exageration. I am happy for you, and for Buddy too.
Linda, I hope that your pooch gets better too. Tell us of how this pal is doing now. Have the most wonderful day, love our days and life. Cindi

Linda...How is your lil guy doing?? I hope whatever it is that is ailing him, will resolve. It is much more difficult when they are seniors...I am thinking of you all from over here on the left coast..
I am still worrying about Buddy, but he does seem much better. We'll see...
Thanks to you all for caring...

Happy to hear Buddy is home! So what's on his menu? One of my elderly dogs decided she liked me to boil chicken and add a little rice. I used to take out her portion and add vegetables and spices to the rest for our supper!

Heya Kimbrell,
I cook up "Primal Nuggets", these re typically fed raw, but Vet said no,no ,no raw food! So I cook them up in coconut oil and add chicken broth and brown rice...he LOVES the stuff! Three times a day!

You all will think this funneeee. When my oldest gal had a dog, it was a Dalmation. Now this was a weird dog, and I am a dog lover, but I couldn't stand this poor dog. He was such a weirdo....terrible to say, but I have not ever met a dog I didn't like, except him. I think he was from another planet for surely.
He was allergic to protein, go figure that one out. He had to be on a diet of macaroni, cooked, plain, vet's orders......he honestly was in poor health and eventually had to be put down at the age of two years old (thank goodness, ooops......did I say that?, hee, hee). Beautiful day, loving this great life we all live and share. Cindi

Oh that is a sad story, allergic to protein, yikes, no wonder he passed at such an early age...
I really do not care for my sister's big black lab, he has absolutely NO manners, and annoys me...me, the animal lover..hhhmmm go figure!

13 is a good age, you obviously have a good vet, and a well cared for dog. Goodonya, but I worry about ya bank balance, but what do you do in these circumstances? a dog is like a child. End of story. Someone who loves animals like you do has a heart of gold, its obvious to me.
It knows its been sick, it knows you fixed it, it now loves you more than ever and will hang around for at least 5 more years!
Id bet my life on it!
