just joined a few days ago,  learned to make mead a few years back(yes I'm the same frozen from msn brewing groups)  and while learning more about honeys kinda got bit by the "bug". still learning about, mabey someday be able to get my own hive.

I remember getting a book with some bee stuff in it. I though it would be cool but took me till this year and my little cuz to get the old magazine back out. I got bitten and hard by the bug right there. I asked my grandpa and he sed yes, he is the funds, my mom sed yes once I read up on it. I proved alot by info I told them and they both finally agreed. I want them so bad right now and am ordering everything as a christmas gift. My Grandpa also supprised me by giving me a 9x18 room as a honey room for my second year. That is how I got started and by the lovely people here of corse! Bye

thanks for the vote of confidence rog.  I live in a downtown apartment so it will probably be a year or so till i'm in a place to be able to set up a hive

Obviosly, you know best your own circumstances. But there are people who have set up hives on their balconies, rooftops etc. who live in the middle of the city. The girls will take care of finding their own foriage in parks, and so on. If your up to the task, there's usually a way to make it happen. Of course you would have to get permission from your landlord. If you want to start in the spring ( whenever that is for you    ) there are a lot of people here that are willing to help and answer your questions!

Sounds like a great place for an observation hive! Relatively cheap to build, not very cheap to buy ($300-$700) but very fascinating to watch and a simple exit hose to a nearby window and you are in business.

By the Way, welcome to the forum if I hadn't already said so. Just finished with a 48 hour cold spell - 8-15 degrees, 10-30mph winds, what a horrible double I did at work during the cold. I'm a boilerman at Naval Lakehurst and I was doing 4 sets of 2 hour rounds to 42 buildings and hangars in 16 hours time - I'm totally whooped and frankly, I think I'm gonna start turning down overtime because I'm just getting beatup by it.

I listen to books on CD which I get from our county library system. I think I would go nuts if it weren't for having this option of listening to full unabridged books read by professional readers while I'm out doing the buildings. I average about 80 to 100 books a year, I doubt that I'd be able to read 10 otherwise, so it is a real blessing to me.

So, I'm back to bed for a while, tollay achy and pooped today. My mom is in a rehab facility trying to get strength back into her legs and lower back - she will be there for 2 more weeks and hopefully when she gets home, she'll be more stable and sound on her feet. Luckily, she has been to this nursing facility before and likes the people there, so I sleep well knowing that she is cared for and that she is comfortable there.

It's busy around Beemaster Central - I'm looking at about 20 posts that I want to read, now if I can keep my eyes open - lol. Best of luck and stick around the forum, you will learn a bunch about keeping bees by time you are actually ready to keep them.

thanks for taking time to add a personal note in your busy schedule.  I used to work for a company that thawed water lines in trailer houses here in  alaska when it gets that kinda cold you can kill yourself with the hours
