Does "cutout season" usually follow "swarm season"? It seems logical to me...as the swarms that didn't get caught or killed establish themselves, people find them in undesired places and have them removed. My swarm calls have mostly stopped, but I've been getting a few cutout calls lately. One wanted them done for free, so I didn't take that one, and I'm going to check out another tonight after work.

Yes, peaks and valleys, peaks and valleys. You get swarm calls, then cut-out calls, then you will get swarm calls and cut-out calls. I find the moon has a bearing on swarming activity.

my cutout calls have come on the first warm days. last year it was in February and this year in March. that's when people notice, or remember the bees in the walls  . as for swarm season here, i have no idea. i thought it must be done with the berries and the crappy weather, but yesterday i got a call from a beekeeper. she'd had to calls and couldn't get to both. she was going to give me one, but it was to far away and to late in the day. i'm guessing that cutout calls will start again when the swarms have moved into walls. a few people will notice before they get to established! |

some of the swarms have to find homes, so you would think... Also, some homeowners dont care until an event occurs. like they need them removed for a big party, or selling house. I love these calls, "ITS an emergency, can you come now to remove the bees. My dughter is having a graduation party in the yard tomorrow. ." "How long have they been there?" "two years"  Dealing w/ people and bees is like a sitcom somedays!!!! |

Actually I find that most cut-outs come either in the Fall as people procrastinate until they become a real issue. Or early Spring for those who really procrastinate and the new bees start finding ways into the house as they search for the exit. The early spring ones are the nicest as they have less honey stores to deal with.
Of course you do get those that are on top of things and call you when they first get them which does coincide with swarm season.

I seem to get many calls the after a good rainy day. I find that cut out season does follow swarm season. I many time get cut out calls into the winter from spring swarms.

The ones to be particularly careful about are the calls you get late summer, these a lot of times are people who have tried a bunch of stuff and still have the bees, hence is also a time to keep the bunny ears up cause some of these same people may tell tall tales so they can get you to remove their bees at the cheapest rate possible. Yes, we encounter a lot of fibbers in this business!
My motto: I believe nothing I hear and 1/2 of what I see, actually, an uncle would always say this saying and it just stuck with me.

I tell beeks, when your on phone, the swarm is size of garbage can and two ft high. By the time you pull into driveway, they are golfball sized and 35ft high!
