On the hive we stole the queen from for our obs. hive she is as black as pitch, beautiful.  We placed a frame of Italian eggs in the hive for a gentler bee after scraping out queen cells.  On the Thursday b4 Memorial Day my young son and I had the thrill of seeing an unmated queen running around on the comb and being ignored.  Today, eleven days later, we found a large, beautiful golden queen contrasting with the dark bees of the previous queen.  She has been busy laying.  We saw lots of eggs and young larvae and now she carries our mark on her thorax.          Simply amazing.
