My weakness is sugar...I can go bonkers over cookies, candy..etc...oh and I am a gourmet chef & pastry chef as well...I have had to adapt my recipes a lot...

Instead of white flour I use Spelt, Kamut, Oat flours...I use a bit of butter, but use ghee which is clarified butter, and I cook a lot with coconut oil which was once thought to be harmful and is now touted as a very healthful oil/fat.

I use sea salt...instead of regular white pasta, I use soba noodles, or spelt noodles or shirataki noodles.  I use vegetable broth for flavouring and to make the occasional gravy.

We are really fortunate here in Santa Cruz County to have a plethora of natural food stores and organic farmers etc.  I was really happy while in Grants Pass to find that Fred Myers has many of the products I mentioned, and also a new store called "Goosberries"...Yay

When we talk about sweetners, how can we forget the most natural of all  HONEY!!! and I know we all have that.

Another place to find these natural and organic foods is a local food coop. My mom does one for her area and uses a company called "Something Better". You can get food in bulk and it is cheaper then buying in a health food store or even a grocery store.  Saveing money is always a big plus.

Oh boy,.....Well, here it is...I'm down from about 260 to 240....I'm stuck ay 240/244.
The redsox games are pretty tuff because they make me want to snack...My job is slow, so I want to sit...If I didnt have access to all kinds of Gym equipment(It gets turned in to me as scrap metal quite often) I would probably be bigger. I KNOW how to eat...I know what to and not to eat.....But janelles makes some darn good vittles!!...And I can really BBQ!!....I just have to keep remembering to put less in my stomache that can be burned off!
I keep saying to Janelle we have to eat more fish(I can barely shut the lid of my freezer now and fishing hasnt even reached Max!) Now I CAN cook fish!! Baking, frying, smoking, Blackening!!! I always figure if I can catch 'em I better be able to do the rest, especially cook and eat them!
 Ok,....For breakfast I ate honey.......Honey on a RITZ!!..About a quarter of a sleeve.
I'm playing hooky from work so I felt I deserved it...I..uh,..Thought the ritz would be a good chaser for my bowl of FIBER!!...TOOOOT TOOOOOOT!!
If I eat beans, it seems to make my stomach hurt nowadays..I think its because of so much medicine I take..Some of my medicine says to not eat it with a high fiber meal.
I DO eat tons more salad! Janelle makes pretty good salads with stuff in it thats good for you but If I had my way, I would settle with only the leafy parts. I like Pauls newmans dressing Smiley
Janelle has lost some weight too, but she still swills the beer She bought smaller clothes this week and they fit good on her!

Hey JP!
You arent that big a boy. are you? I remember seeing one pic where we could see your face and it didnt appear to be chubbyish!..Oh, and beesuits always make people look bigger!
And Sharon,...You do really good the way you eat! I have friends who are nurses and also friends who work in Dr offices(As my wife used to years ago)..Down here drug reps bring food in for lunch to these clinics EVERY DAY!!.....My friend, Pauls wife, Kanna, lost tons of weight when she wasnt working....Then she got a job in a Drs office as she's a nurse..She puton alot of weight and as the last couple years went by I realized that ALL the girls who work in this place have gotten big!.. Nice thing about Kanna though,...She dresses in a way that a person wouldnt even know shes gotten bigger. Hmmm,. Maybe this is just something that goes on in clinics, 'cuz drug reps would REALY have to bring alot of food to feed ALL the nurses in a hospital.
ok,....I better go....Time for me to see whats for lunch!

your friend,
john

i know everyone is different, but nothing kills my appetite faster than eating protein.  if i eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast, i'll be hungry soon.  if i eat two eggs, i won't think about food most of the day.  guess that's why people like the Atkins diet.

MODERATION in all things! Changing to whole grain, adding more veggies & fruits, eating things that have some sort of nutritional value (chocolate does by the way evil)cutting down on fatty meats, as little processed foods as possible, no hydrogenated oils, try & stay away from ingredients you can't pronounce or have to look up in the dictionary.  If you tell yourself that you can't have something you will crave it & over do.  Always carrying good foods in the car.  apple, banana, oranges, grapefruit(what can be faster food than those??)nuts (unsalted raw) or trail mix, homemade of course!  I make mine w/kashi go lean (not the crunch)as a base.  Add almonds, dried fruits (not too many sugared ones) raisins, raw sunflower & pepita's,wasabi peas (YUMMY) & I add dark chox covered soy nuts for the bad stuff to satisy my evil side.  It is high protein, low fat, high fiber fast food if you are traveling. All can be found at Trader Joes or the natural section of many stores.  I have also made sandwiches w/cheese & whole grain rolls to put in the windshield of the car in a baggie...the sun melts the cheese like grilled cheese, but you can only leave it for a few hours...maybe even 1 where it is hot like the south!  I also make smoothies in the AM, think I posted once before.  Bruce gets his 5-a-day then in case he doesn't get any more good meals.  It's amazing what you can sneak in them & they still taste good!! evil  You will be amazed at how much $$ you save & how much better you feel without fast foods!!  Whatever you decide to do it has to be something you can stick to for life, maybe do a couple of things at a time.  If you can't do things easily, comfortably chances are you won't do them for long!!  Just human nature!   Jody

John, if I dropped by your house, I would have to indulge, no ifs, ands, or buts!!! Bbq and fried fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now we're talkin'!!!

I'm the biggest I've ever been, its starting to get to me with my long days and all, today, I'm sittin' back a little cause of all the bad weather we had, eatin' healthy today also. Smiley

Most of my weight goes right to my stomach, no love handles, it just sticks out, like a pregnant woman's!!! grin Yeah, I look like the governater in that movie where he had that kid, btw, that movie is just too weird.

Lovely, can't believe I didn't mention honey. I love honey, and its a sweetner that doesn't have empty calories, gotta watch foods that have empty calories, like the three whites, rice, flour, sugar. In excess they are bad.

Kathy, I'm like you, my body needs a little extra protein or I get really hungry fast.

Jody and Sharon, thanks for the suggestions. Grilled cheese roll ups inside the car!!!! Not hard to do, I'm sure.

For the time being, I am upping my veggies and cutting back on the mammals, until the body reaches a better place. Gonna have a roasted onion boca burger dressed, for lunch, perhaps with some brussels on the side.

Ya'll having fun? I sure am. grin

just have to drop by, yeah i'm not responding a lot but the diet got my attention, although i don't have weight issues. the diet, where you eat only proteins or only OH really works, in fact it should not be referred as a diet but as the only right way of eating. first things first, why do we eat bread topped with a nice slice of ham anyway? most would say the taste but most would be wrong, it's because of starvation, as you all well know before there were mineral fertilizers there was hunger, not enough food, so people tried various combinations which would "fill" them for a longer period of time and mixing OH and proteins certainly is the way to do so but it has a baad baad affect on our body's, so now, that we live in times when we have it all, we really should eat the right way-the "separation" way. Also, this diet doesn't contain any extremism as most of others do, you actually can eat everything, now if you're trying to loose weight of course you'll hold back but...you won't be lacking ANYTHING, plus there are meals when the only thing you can eat is a big fat juicy stake, what more could a man want tongue.
yeah i'd recommend it to anyone, my mom lost...well i don't really know how much but i know she lost quite a lot.
so this "diet" plus like someone mentioned "eating the whole day" would be perfect.

oh jeez, now i looked down again and saw that JP actually already knows the details, ahhhh..though would be a shame to erase everything?

bye!

I'm the same way, Kathy, although I do eat a high fiber cereal for breakfast, with fruit, but then mid-morning I have my protein.  Gotta have it or I'm starving for the rest of the day!  I eat five or six times a day, though, I don't eat a lot at each sitting, but I do eat often.

Hey JP, my belly got so big that my belly button popped out! Its an "Outty" instead of an "Inny" now. It doesnt hurt but I sometimes think i'm gonna tear it open on a tree limb or piece of metal at work!........You know what?.... grin......I bet if you look at one of my pics with the cans on my head, if you zoom in you can see how my belly button sticks out!
Also, it seems that one day my belly was kinda holding itself up, and the next day it fell down!..Just like that!
I like boiled cauliflower with vinegar on it. I like carrots raw with a little salt.
Also, nowadays, if I eat something greasy, like ribs, or chickens with the skin on, or steak with too much fat, My stomach will kinda feel queasy and nauseous. It didnt used to be that way...Fish and crawdads and shrimp and sardines dont bother me. Then again i dont get to eat crawdads much because they are over 3.00 a pound.
Ok,...Thats enough yammering from me for now......Good luck JP with your modified eating plan!...You've encouraged me to get back on the good eating plan!
I'll send a pic with me in my new "French-Canadian" swimming trunks after I lose 10 more lbs!!

My Dad used to tend to his garden wearing a walkman and his green weenie bikini, the site of you in yours can't quite possibly be worse than that experience. Plus he would sing at the top of his lungs so the entire neighborhood could hear him. It was way scary. shocked shocked shocked

So JP I thought of you last night as I prepped a quick meal.  I had worked all day and had overtime, plus it was pretty hot day.

This a a healthy "no brainer"...

Crush some tortilla chips (not a whole bunch now ) place in bottom of a med size soup bowl.  Cook up some Zatarain's Black Beans and Rice...grate some cheese ( vegan or otherwise ) slice some  back olives olives, green onions, chop some tomatoes, chop some romaine.

place abig bunch of romaine atop the chips, place the Zatarain's on the lettuce, sprinkle with the cheese, olives. tomatoes and onions...a scoop of salsa and some sour cream ( I use yogurt ), and some guacamole if you have it, or chopped avocado...

This is yummy~*~
