My wife and I went to IHOP this morning, they never seem to be able to get my order correct.

I could understand it more if we lived in Florida, everyone seems to always be hungover there on a Sunday morning, perhaps all the employees at this particular IHOP are from Florida?

And the service is ssssssssssslllllllllllooooooowwwwwwwwwwww.

Gelatin = animal product

So those cows gave their lives for nothing!  I'd eat them all if nothing else but to give meaning to those poor animals lives! evil

Believe it or not, I have had some health issues these past few months which has forced me to eat healthier.

I have given up chocolate, caffeine, citrus fruits, tomatoes, carbonated beverages, spicy foods and fried foods. Also much smaller portions several times a day.

No choice in this matter, had to do this. I have a hiatal hernia, which is a bummer. Part of my stomach pushes up into my esophagus when I eat and all the acids end back up into my esophagus. I ended up in the Emergency Room last month because of this.

Since being on this new diet, I have lost 10 lbs and counting. I miss my foods, but want to feel better. I am slowly getting better, but very slowly.

Eating very simply now, steamed veggies, grains, salads. Just nothing on that list above.

Annette, you poor gal, didn't know you were having so much trouble, I wish you a full recovery and hope that someday you will be able to eat chocolate again.

One thing I know about acids building up, try not to eat late nor close to when you go to bed.

Good luck to you Annette!!!

I know a guy, Jimmy Dilli, who had the acid reflux deal for so long while he was in the military that he now has a squeaky voice!..Like a cartoon mouse sort of!
He has to sleep sitting up!..I even asked him once. just messing around, if he was to eat peas upside down, would they roll out his nose?...He said YES!..He said everything will come out because he doesnt have the food catcher part in his throat anymore. They didnt tell him about this until he got out of the military and went to the VA for his health check-up. They AirForce had been giving him antacids for over 20 years for this ailment.

I understand, with my health issues I have to force myself to eat.  So anything I can keep down is healthier food.

John, oh you gotta be kidding us!!!  The acid reflux actually "ate" away that thingy thing in his throat?  My Husband too has that, but it only happens when he drinks red wine and any kind of chocolate thing in the evenings together.  It makes him get up in the middle of the night coughing his guts out, and then his guts (well what is in his gut) comes out, then it burns the dickens out of his throat and he feels really sick the next day.  He is a bad boy!!!  I keep telling him to learn to not each chocolate and drink red wine in the same night, but, just like you men, hee, hee, oops, doe they ever listen to their dear wife that must know everything, hee, hee.....have that most wonderfully awesome and fantastic day, Cindi

Cindi, that stuff your hubbie is spewing is acids from his stomach and aren't meant to pass through the esophagus, he needs to be very careful he doesn't do irreversible damage.

Have him take an antacid when he drinks the wine and eats chocolate, he'll be better off, something like tagament, he can take this 15 minutes or so before he has his wine/chocolate fix.

The hardest thing for me to give up is the chocolate and the tomatoes. I just love Italian food and can not eat any red sauces right now.

Trying to keep it all in perspective. I am seeing a GI Doc in 2 weeks. Finally Kaiser agreed to let me see a specialist.

But I am looking good with the additional wt loss. Ha! Ha!

Also JP I am not eating anything at least 3 hours before going to bed and in fact have been eating my last meals about 5:00PM.

Thanks you all for caring

Hey Annette!! You MUST be looking "HOT" instead of only looking "good" after losing some weight because you look "FINE" to me already! Wink
Yeh, Cindi, its true about the thing getting eaten away..At least thats what Jimmy told me...His voice is squeeky because of the acids getting into his vocal cord box and damaging his vocal cords.
I just read on the net that I'm not supposed to eat chocolate cuzza the caffeine in it(because of caffeine can mess with my heart rythm) I have only seen this in one internet forum so it doesnt really stop me....it just makes me think a second more before i indulge.
When I started eating alot different over 3 years ago (Mostly less food at a time) I quit having heartburn...Then, I would start to drink more beers and eat more and i got the heartburn back...Then I would quit drinkin beers and eating so much red meat and chips and i would get better again!

john
