Removal Technology

I recently crossed paths w/ a man who does removals exclusively for a living. I turned down a removal because it was too high for me. The homeowner called me back to say this man was coming by to do the removal, would I care to watch. So off I went. I am glad I turned down job too.
The bees had an entrance about 25ft above ground between shingles, corner of window and soffit. This man put a fiberoptic camera inside hole and determined bees were about 20 ft above entrance. He then confirmed this w/ infrared scope. He found bees easily, then vacuumed them out and removed comb and was done in about 45 minutes. I never would have found these bees, and the homowner had a much smaller hole to deal w/. Man charged $1200. He doesn't do removals for less then $750, so he took my number so I could do easier cutouts that didn't demand his high tech approach. I was totally amazed. I am also trying to buy some of his older used equipment that was made obsolete by his hi-tech gizmos.

I like doing cut-outs, but I love catching swarms!

"infrared scope" may be a borescope. Infrared imagery utilizes heat images such as an infrared imager does. I've looked into using infared imagery and what I would need to do the job, would run in the 30-40k range. Heat thermometer gun works well when temps are below say 85f. After that you need a borescope or a high dollar camera to "see" with.
The first rule in any removal process is locating EXACTLY where the hive is located.

They werent even close to where I would have expected them to be. They had plenty of room right above window, 7-10" from entrance. Instead they went up a seam and into third floor wall.

Konasdad, yep, lucky you didn't take that cut out job, hee, hee. The bees are very deceptive about where they are located it sounds like. Keep to the more simple ones for sure. Have that beautiful and most wonderful day, Cindi
