I always try and eat at least one vegetable with my meat dish. grin

Actually, I have tried veganism before yrs ago. After a certain point my body craved more. Tried the beans and rice, nuts, cheese, soy substitutes, etc... I am designed to eat meat, this is what my body told me.

I am with you JP! If God did not intend for us to eat meat, he would not have made it taste so good.

Seriously, I would be better off if I ate less, especially red meat.

Sharon

I have been a vegetarian since 1974, although not a vegan. I do love my milk and yogurt, although I do not eat eggs. I was born and raised as a meat eater, but it never felt natural to me, and my parents had the hardest time getting me to eat anything but the pasta and rice off the plate.

When I moved into a house, in 1974, with a bunch of people who were all vegetarians, I finally learned how to cook really good food. I enjoy all kinds of food, mexican, japanese, italian, indian, thai and chinese to name just a few. cooking and eating good food is a very important part of my life.

How did you get into this???

Oh Hi Annette,

I have been off mammal meats for years, every so often would eat poultry, fish...started practicing Yoga and learned of ahimsa.  My daughter recently became a vegan.   It seems to rile  a lot people up when I mention that I practice a vegan diet...I am not sure why...but they do seem to get angry.  Ohand I am a hypocrite as I do feed my dogs poultry, and I wear some old leather sandals...

Some vegan folks don't eat honey , they think the bees were killed or harmed...Oh  I  eat honey!

My Hubby eats meat at the Firehouse, but I cook him delicious meals at home, HAHAHA...

JP and Steve...whatever works for you, LOL..probably is healthier for the body to have at least 1 day a week without animal products...

I laugh at the bumper sticker that says "Vegan" is the Indian word for "bad food"...  LOL

I make the yummiest foods!~*~*  Cheers

Sharon, I hope I didn't offend you, was just teasing a bit. Like I said I tried vganism but it just didn't work out for me. Yes I could eat less meat in my diet, this is true. Actually, I love eating a high water content food diet, its just with my busy lifestyle its very difficult for me to do.

Just curious, do you take liquid amino acids?

Tomorrow you can tell us how long you have been vegan and why you chose veganism, if you don't mind sharing.

Hey Annette, I just read an earlier post where I was talking about roasted duck and your reply was, what about roasted tofu? I now understand where you were coming from.

Steve, I def wouldn't want to go hunting with Sharon. While I was trying to find ways to lure the game in, her mind would be racing to find ways to keep them away, heeheehee, Sharon Wink

I could see it now, the long quiet stalk, we are both pursuing the game for different reasons, I am in place, just about to pull the trigger or loose the arrow, Sharon is right there beside me, my breathing is controlled, I am focused, I pick my spot, Sharon is very quiet, has been a good sport(for a vegan grin) right as I am about to launch my missile...RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!! RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

Ok, I am really mad at Sharon now, but wait... She does make a darn good salad!!!

There's always tomorrow, and tomorrow I will not forget THE MUZZLE!!!!!! grin Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss

JP...You know me so well!

Except, I must tell you all something that I am not proud of.  "I" am a vegan BUT "I" am also a gopher trapper.  Forgive me..I tried and tried other methods, but alas...I have trapped 4 so far this year, but I leave the bodies for my hubby or some wild animal to clean them out for me...ok now there, I've said it...

I have worn different shoes over th yrs, and I do understand your perspective. I appreciate you being a good sport. Just as you mentioned that people get angry when they hear you're vegan, I have seen vegans get downright mean as well about those who eat animals. Like you said, whatever works.

Remember this song?:

I tried to find the song 'I Don't Eat Animals' by Melanie Kafka, bit it wasn't there...Here are the lyrics, it was a cute song.

I was just thinking about the way it's supposed to be,
I'll eat the plants and the fruit from the trees,
And I'll live on vegetables and I'll grow on seeds,
But I don't eat animals and they don't eat me,
Oh no, I don't eat animals 'cause I love them, you see,
I don't eat animals, I want nothing dead in me.

I don't eat white flour, white sugar makes you rot,
Oh, white could be beautiful but mostly it's not.
A little bit of whole meal, some raisins and cheese,
But I don't eat animals and they don't eat me.
Oh no, I don't eat animals 'cause I love them, you see,
I don't eat animals, I want nothing dead in me.

A little bit of whole meal, some raisins and cheese,
I'll eat the plants and the fruit from the trees,
And I'll live on vegetables and I'll grow on seeds,
But I won't eat animals and they won't eat me,
Oh no, I'll live on life, I want nothing dead in me,
You know I'll become life and my life will become me,
You know I'll live on life and my life will live on me.

So I am coming from a different perspective on this.  I eat what I want (vegetarian) and I do not care at all what anyone else eats. I wear my leather shoes and jacket and I am not that concerned about animals being killed. I am more concerned about how people treat people.

I just do what is right for me. (I would not kill anything, but that is just me) I let people work out their karma any way they have to. I do not believe in good and bad. Just qualities in people.

I got into being vegetarian by associating with these new friends I made. It just fit and I eventually learned meditation and the whole diet thing just fit right in.  I eat so good now, and have such a varied diet, there really is nothing missing.I can not get my husband to eat out, as he loves my home cooking so much. I have spoiled him.

Take care and I do love that song. Very sweet.

Oh I have combined the swarmed hive with my 1 year old established hive...we'll see what happens next!

Now I have to vacuum carpets and clean the floors, because while I was with the bees, the dogs were in the house having quite a party!!!

i think people get mad when then hear vegetarian because often it is part of a whole tree hugging thing.  during the Great Migration of Californians north, many globs of them dropped off along the coast of Oregon.  for some reason, there was a mass exodus of rich PETA members.

we expect to have things back to normal in a few years.  these are the same people who march up my mountain on the first sunny day in May wearing shorts, Birkenstocks, carrying only a bottle of water and a camera.  they get caught in a spring snow storm and their bodies wash down in the summer.  funny,  they don't want me to water my horse in the creek because i might pollute it, but it's ok for their partially decomposed bodies to come swooshing down the river in July.....  anyway, through attrition, we will lose most of them and if their children are not to brainwashed, perhaps there is hope for the rest of us.

Oh Kathy, I like you!   grin  We have the cyclists that come from Bellevue (the snooty rich town) to cycle in the country..Enumclaw is a horse & dairy town, strap their bikes back on BMW's & Hummers leaving their exhaust..then write letters to the editor complaining about the horse/cow exhaust!  My daughter says we should go to Bellevue & complain bout the smell of money!  This migration happens every spring...sigh! Oh yea, the subject. I'm like a bear, an omnivore...just not the bugs!
