I do it occasionally when replying, but never when starting a new topic. When I cancel a reply, it's generally because I'm either unsure that what I'm about to say is correct or that I feel someone with more experience will have a more complete answer than I can provide.

.....The greatest changes occur in their country without their cooperation. They are not even aware of precisely what has taken place. They suspect it; they have heard of the event by chance. More than that, they are unconcerned with the fortunes of their village, the safety of their streets, the fate of their church and its vestry. They think that such things have nothing to do with them, that they belong to a powerful stranger called “the government.” They enjoy these goods as tenants, without a sense of ownership, and never give a thought to how they might be improved.....

Never even think of that kind of reply let alone type one out.

Thsats why I have thsese tellible thpeech defectth...

Seriously though....sometimes you just have to blow off some steam.  I never fill in the to: or the cc: on an email until I've reveiwed the email several times, and very often have to delete out text.  Occasionally I'll write an email and save it and then go back later to make sure the acid isn't too corrosive rolleyes before I send it.

Same thing happens on the forums, only rarely.

More often the mere act of typing triggers questions and clues to research, and before posting I'll investigate those thoughts and figure something out or realize I was wrong and then need to delete it.

All the time. I don't know why either. Maybe because I know a reply will come and I don't want to deal with it at that moment.
