I hate news articles like that. All it does is set fear of bees in people. Yes, it's true that bees can be dangerous, but not if you use a small amount of sense. You don't have to go into panic mode and go call a pest control person. (sigh)
Bees are protective of their hive, mostly because of the queen/brood/honey. But if you get near the hive, they'll give you plenty of warnings to back off. These "attack" stories are very rare, and take extra ordinary circustances to make the bees get in this kind of unstoppable frenzy - enough to kill two dogs.

The ONLY time my bees were that mad was when one of them swarmed, and my husband collected up the swarm. He wore the bee suit, and used his gloved hands to "scoop" the bees into a hive body. His gloves had so many stings it was hard to count them all. It had to be 60-100 stings, at least that. That very well could be enough stings, if directly in the skin, to kill a dog/elderly person/or child, and put any adult in the hospital.

But this fear of bees makes me upset.

What I was wondering about the story was;

Can't dogs out run bees?

What in the world could the dogs have done to Make the bees so mad?

My mother and I both have just recently been working right on top of wasp nest and not known it until later. You know how tempermental those can be. But amazing we didn't get stung.

Those bees I killed off, surely they were a little ticked off yet they didn't chase after me or bother me much as I stood there watching.

I think there is something left out of the Bee/dog story.

I think so too. First, I think the dogs would have to have been chained or stuck in a pen. And I think about the only thing that would really bug the bees is if someone or something disturbed the swarm? hive? or whatever. You would have to make a big threat on the queen (with regular bees, not africanized) to make them get in enough of a frenzy to keep stinging. And yes, dogs can outrun bees. Most bees don't continue chasing you after maybe 100 feet or something, even when really mad. Africanized bees are different though. They're persistant.
When my husband got ahold of that swarm, they didn't start stinging him till he was near the center where the queen was. And once they were in the hive box they quit, and just started settling in with the queen - the threat was over for them.

A city ordenance was past a while back banning the practice of chaining dogs. That's right you con't chain your dog in the city limits of Lubbock. Either they or pinned or in a fenced in yard.

You know how dogs are such great excape artist? I think the number of wandering dogs has increased since the ordinance was past.

That is bull. They had to have left something out. I hate the news, they never tell the wholl or right story. About a year ago my grandmother mansion which was a historical site burned. Luck for us 2 of the 5 stories are brick and the fire didnt go below the 3 floor. But even the news didnt get the story right and they where there all night! bye
