The Seattle Art Museum has some of the statues from the Louvre! I'm pretty sure I won't get there in this lifetime so Bruce, Amanda & I went last thurs. BTW the 1st th of every month is free at SAM, there is a special charge of $10 to see the Roman stuff. Anyways, it was breathtakingly beautiful, I was in awe of what they did with chisels & rocks. The detail, the fingers had cuticles, the feet, different types of clothes, minute details! When we were going out, I looked at my daughter & she was clasping her hands in front of her, I then noticed that I was doing the exact same thing, like little old ladies clutching their pocketbooks! Both of us are very tactile & wanted so much to run our hands over them, touch the stone, feel the smoothness of the skin, texture of the hair, shoelaces, sandals, types of cloth.. the weapons, flowers...I'm quite sure the museum would have taken a dim view of that! If any of you are close enough to see these you should definately go, it is well worth it. I don't know where or if they will go to another museum, you may want to check in your states. This is the first time EVER these have been allowed to leave the Louvre so we may not get another chance! We also got to see the restored Gates of Paradise.. breathtaking, the work that went into making them. These are leaving Seattle in April & the Roman exhibit will be here till May.
Still Amazed Jody
